Gadsden, Alabama
For some reason, AD's at these schools cannot understand that the students do not need to be sitting behind the visiting players bench nor does the visiting team need a dressing room next to the student section.
>
When Ole Miss expanded they moved their students away from the visitors. LSU moved visiting fans into seats right behind the visiting bench after a problem or two.
>
After the bottle throwing incident, which is a disgrace, it is clear that the students section needs to be moved to the north endzone.
There was a small problem at the Hawaii game and should have been clear to the AD that something needed to be done.
>
I hope that we move the students to the north endzone and moved the visitors to the south endzone and create a cushion between the visitors team and the home fans.
It is sad when it has to come to that at BDS.

What they need to do is prohibit the the drunk students entry to the stadium. If they have to blow a breathalyzer before entering, so be it. I've seen so many students at games staggering drunk that its not even funny.

Alabama's team used to stand on the other sideline. They were moved away from the students because the "sun was in their eyes."

Well most of the time they're not drunk when entering. They usually have something on them while entering that will get them drunk after they're already in. I was sitting behind two kids who snuck a bottle of whiskey in. Such a waste of seats.....

Because the seats in "The Zone" are so expensive, there is no way the students will get moved to the North End Zone now. You also can't take away 50 yard line seats from Tide Pride folks who pay thousands of dollars to sit there just so the students get moved. Besides...it's not so much a problem with the "student section" as it is with the Greek section. The general student section never has any problems...it's the booze toting Greeks who throw cups, get wasted, and embarrass the University at football games.

you are exactly right. with the new "zone" seating and the high price it takes to have seats there, there is noooo way the student section will move anywhere near the north endzone.

Keep in mind the cups were being thrown from the endzone in the student section- The section encompasses s-5 to cc., that is a huge area. There are 100 drunk frat boys ruining the time for the fans like myself and others sitting in the rest of the section. Also, it is absurd to say that the students are the only ones drunk in the stadium. That is the most asinine comment I have heard someone say on here. If you can pony up enough cash to sit in the Zone, you can "service" your locker on Friday before the game.

Agreed. The argument about who the worst fans at the game is pretty much a quagmire as everyone thinks the other is worse. The Greek section is generally more intoxicated and(from my experience), just look for things to bring out their alpha male syndrome. However, there are plenty other fans who are liqoured up at the games as well, so to say that they're the entire problem is ridiculous.

Actually, I've been hearing since prior to this season that before next year the student section will be moved to a corner of the opposite end zone. Someone new was hired to head up seating at the stadium last summer and they supposedly wanted to give the guy a year to learn on the job before making any drastic changes to stadium seating.

Yeah, and let's allow the drunk alumni (I'm saying this as an alumnus) and other fans entry without question.

No, you can keep them out as well. The people taking tickets need to take their job seriously and check for contraband like they are supposed to. If they can't they need to find employment elsewhere. I know things get slipped into the stadium in sometimes creative ways. Most of which would get caught if someone would simply check. (shot bottles taped to the thigh of co-eds, IV bags under the arm) I've never seen a box at the gates containing contraband that was not allowed entry.

2 problems:

1) The student section is not just a "corner." It is an entire endzone AND the corner all the way to about the 15 yard line or so. (give or a take a few yards).

2) Imagine paying BIG BUCKS for your red seats in The Zone. Now imagine that you are forced to stand the entire game because students won't/don't sit down in front of you. That would NEVER fly.

My solution would be to move the greeks to the inside corner of the student section and put the majority of students in the endzone near where the visiting team comes out. Sure, the greeks would get better seats, , but I believe it'd be the best solution.

First of all, I was absolutely disgusted that the North Zone seats were half covered by Auburn fans. I understand that this season was not the best of Alabama seasons, but for all of the alumni that I see show up in their nice cars and RVs, to see that many Auburn fans sitting TOGETHER in the upper deck was just abhorable to me, especially since this is rivalry game, not some DII directional school.

Second, the Greeks do nothing to add to the game 'cept wave those shakers and yell. I was embarrassed as a fellow student to see them throwing their crap onto the field. Yes, the calls were horrible but don't throw crap because you dislike the call. For the most part, the frat boys and sorority girls that attend the games just care about themselves and how they look. I know of some Greeks personally that are actually good people and they would agree with my assessment.

Just because you're part of a frat/sorority doesn't mean you should distinguish yourselves from the rest of the student body and act like you're "the ****" just because you have on your blazers and khakis. Again, this isn't directed at all frat boys, etc., just the ones that I have observed at all of the home games that I attended this year.

Finally, the other alumni need to realize that the students are also part of the university, just like they once were when they were at the Capstone at our ages. We may be a bit more rowdier, vulgar, and like different music than y'all did, but we are a big part in the university. If you can't stand up, that's fine. But don't sit in the student section and expect every student to cater to your wishes.

For the last time, the reason that there were that many Auburn fans in the North End Zone seats is that's where we gave them their tickets. No other visitor this year came close to selling their allotment but you'll see the same next year when Georgia, Tennessee and LSU come to visit. Yes, they're basically in one section but they only had one small section close to the field.

Had an opportunity to observe some of the stuff going on in the Student Section during the game and have to say it sure wasn’t in consonance with what I think the majority considers BAMA to be all about. Don’t know if problem can be identified as a “Greek” problem or not…although they are the usual convenient suspects. All students should be acquainted with proper conduct and required to sign a statement regarding same to get their tickets. Security should be in place to take care of the few airheads that can’t observe acceptable conduct. Want to make a statement? Kick their a**** out of the game and bar them from future games. If alcohol/underaged drinking is involved...so should their Deans and parents.

I would like to add that when the greek idiots started throwing stuff on the field, the rest of the student section began to boo them. Please lets distingish between the greeks and the rest of the student section. I don't want to be associated with fools.

Because the end zone seating is bloc seating, it should be pretty easy for the security, police officers, and administrative officials to tell which blocs contained individuals throwing cups. A solution that would show the university's seriousness towards this matter would be to prohibit those organizations from sitting in those blocs again next year. Of course that means the university would have to bring some credibility to the bloc seating system...which is unlikely to happen.

The Greeks do not have assigned seating any more than do other students. You also cannot reserve seats in the Student Section. Students could sit in the end zone and crowd out the greeks if they really wanted. This would be the most effective way to end the nonsense, and it would reeeeeaaallly tick off some Richie Rich's...
