Question: Student Section Seating

I'm flying down for Bama-LSU and haven't been in the student section in... let's just say years. This is my girlfriends first trip to T-town so I don't want her to miss the pregame festivities and I'd rather be somewhere (anywhere) in the lower bowl area. I was wondering if some students could give some insight into how soon the bowl fills up and what the ticket line is like an hour or so before kickoff. Thanks.

At the BAMA/Arky game this year, myself and 3 friends walked in 1 1/2 hours before the game started and could pretty much pick our seat (Lower Bowl). Just remember all the student organizations get the lower bowl behind the goal posts (They will likely be open, but you will have to move close to game time when all the student org members arrive). There are charts located inside that highlight what sections are reserved. I would imagine people will line up a little earlier for the BAMA/lsu game. I am planning on 3 hours before kickoff myself! I'm a student at U of A, and generally for the bigger games i show up an 1.5 hrs before kick off, and for the smaller games about 1 hr, and never have problems getting lower bowl seats. But due to the magnitude of this game and the hype surrounding it, Im getting there as soon as the gates open which is 2 hrs before kickoff, and I imagine most students will do the same. My advice to you if your planning on sitting in the student section and want a lower bowl seat is to be there by 5 to get your seat. I know its a long wait in the stadium until kickoff, but I imagine we'll have a pretty good time inside the stadium. I hope this helps. Roll Tide!

The long story: This is my girlfriends first trip to Tuscaloosa. We live up here in Seattle and I've been trying to get her down for a game for a couple years now. She new her grandfather well and knew he "played some football" in his younger days. What she didn't know is that he was one of Alabama's first All-Americans (third I believe) and played and started on the first two National Championship teams. He was also MVP of the 1927 Rose Bowl for the 2nd National Championship team. On top of that he was the team Captain in 1927. I've been reacquianting her with her roots and wanted to show her as much of the atmosphere, campus, stadium, museum, etc. as I can while we're down there. I'm curious if we'd be able to do a lap around the stadium with student tickets or if the student section is somehow divided from the "general public" areas of the stadium. I've only been able to make it back for games "occasionally" since I was a student in the mid 90's and can't remember how things are arranged.

The student section is fenced off. There is a map on rolltide.com that will show you the exact locations.

HOw did she not know that about her grandfather? I'd be bragging like heck about that!

Take her to the Bryant Museum and ask if you can get into the research library portion (Trust me - it exists) to get some more information about her grandfather. They are used to people looking up information about family members that once played for the team. She might be able to find out some more information, pictures, etc.

He apparently didn't talk much about his football background and football isn't King up here in the Pacific Northwest. When she mentioned that she "thought he played for a team in Alabama in a really big game" I google'd his name and realized he played on the 1926 Rose Bowl team. I was able to tell her the score of the game without looking because (as I told her at the time) every good Southern Football fan knows that game. I've spent the past couple years reacquanting her with her Grandfather's Legacy. She totally gets it now. I've taken her to one game so far... the '09 BCS game where she got to see her Grandfather's MVP plaque.

Incidentally, if you see a girl walking around with this t-shirt (which she doesn't know about yet), please feel free to stop us and say "Roll Tide".

Thanks for the suggestion. I actually have this near the top of the to-do list. I've dropped the director a message and I'm pretty excited about what we might find in the archives.
