All joking aside, a 45,000 seat stadium would be great for Birmingham. If Coach Clark can continue building the UAB football program the way he wants, I believe they will have some success. I'm not saying they'll ever be a better than average team, but I would hope they'd be bowl eligible more often than not given their conference. A stadium like that would also draw other sports events to Birmingham because it gives a safe and clean venue as opposed to the sad excuse of Legion Field. The Bruno Event Team (I think they are still called that) does a great job of getting unique and exciting sporting events to come to Birmingham. I have to believe they'd be able to do that much better with a new stadium. The City of Birmingham, as corrupt as it may be, somehow managed to do an amazing job with Regions Field. Can they do the same for a football stadium? I have no idea, but it's painfully obvious that Legion Field will not survive another 15-20 years.

I say bring it on. Uptown has been a success and has been handled properly. I don't have much faith in leadership, but I have faith in the people of Bham to support something like this. The soccer game was awesome, for instance, but embarrassing to have something like that at THE DUMP.
I'm with you. Bham needs something like this to go along with Regions Park, Railroad Park area and the social district they have built in the past few years. I don't think the leadership has been there for many years so if you wait to get good leadership it may never happen.

Even if they have the funding and the backing and everything else they need...where are they gonna bulid this thing? Legion Field is nearly the size of the whole BJCC comlpex. I know there are some vacant lots over there, but they are small. It would take nearly 4 city blocks just for the structure with nowhere to park.

This is Alabama, where taxes are always going to go up and the taxpayer gets stiffed for boondoggles.
Yup..I agree 100% & have giving up on the State ever allowing the Lottery in our State where it would be a big boom for our State..It makes no sense to me that so much $$$$ goes to other States that has the Lottery & Alabamians crosses State lines to buy Lottery tickets..

Some have brought up the success of Regions Field where the Barons play but was there not a recent ruling that the city of Birmingham would be held responsible for some debt in regards to the stadiums construction? It was a debt that the Barons ownership was thought to be paying on but each side went to court and the city was "awarded" the debt?

Plus, I hope the sink hole from behind second base running behind right center field never falls in.....

45-50k stadium that could host a bowl game, maybe a second-tier FBS conference title, and the state championships is a sensible solution. The Dome was typical Birmingham politicians dreaming up ideas and thinking the money would magic it's way into reality.

The chief problem with the Dome was that A) The Iron Bowl is never coming back, Pat Dye killed that B) The SECCG is never coming back C) Alabama is never leaving BDS for a home game again since they've invested so much money into it and the local economy is so dependent on it.

I think most of the major bond issuers are going to be a little reluctant to do business with Jefferson County. Be great if it could happen.
B'ham city official: "We can get this bond for only 22%. That's better than the interest rate I got on my condo in Eastwood in 1978."

I just don't understand why CBC is so invested in this program? The is a quality coach we could honestly be building his pedigree as a defensive coach in a major program right now. Trying to build this program adds no value to his resume. The ONLY reason you do it if you are him is to increase the value of his state retirement.
