Link: TAMU to the SEC Rumors Surface Yet Again

Re: Texas A & M to SEC Watch

at least this will give us something to discuss in the offseason ! I still think we will eventually see the super conferences....

Re: Texas A & M to SEC Watch

If it happens I really think it will come down to Oklahoma or Clemson. Thing is the PTB are on record, I think, as saying the SEC would not add teams from current SEC states, but I imagine that could easily change. I would say TCU, but with their upcoming move...is that really feasible? VaTech would be a good fit but with the fiasco that went on with their joining the ACC I don't know how doable that is either. So I would like to see Oklahoma come with, I've always liked them.

Re: Texas A & M to SEC Watch

I'm really thinking a 13 team SEC is a very good situation. Move 7 teams to the East to help bolster it.

SEC WEST
Alabama
Arkansas
LSU
Ole Miss
MSU
Texas A&M

SEC EAST
Awburn
Tennessee
Florida
Kentucky
Georgia
Vandy
USCe

Adding an OU to the West, too, would almost make it impossible to make it through a season unscathed and healthy.

Adding a new team to the east would likely mean a Duke, UNC, or Virginia that would open up a new market and not adding really anything to the football side, but would basketball. IOW, I think the above would be perfect.

Florida State would never be invited, because the SEC already has a school in the state of Florida. I think the plan going forward on any expansion is expand into new states. Texas A&M would certainly rank high on the list, being that it would give the SEC entry into the state of Texas. Oklahoma would be a new state and a team with grand tradition. Texas would probably be the #1 target but they're never joining, and I'm thankful for that. I can do without their extremely overinflated sense of self-worth.

I think other targets would be Virginia Tech, Virginia, Duke, and North Carolina. Obviously, you may not get any one of those teams without also taking their rival. However, expansion is going to happen. The Big 12 is not made to last, and this huge tv contract Texas has secured for itself only hastens the conference's demise. You can bet the new Pac 12 still has its eyes on Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M. It's going to play out one way or the other and the SEC will do well to get at least two of the castoffs.

Adding Duke or UVA to the SEC would certainly add to the "brain knowledge" of the SEC, but offer basically nothing in the way of good football teams. Duke rarely has a winning team and UVA has those once in a decade good football teams. They would certainly add to the basketball, and UVA has a good baseball program the last couple of years, but I think expansion is all about football. If you are going to VA, then get Tech for football, and to NC, take the Tarheels because they are decent in football and good in basketball and baseball.

Re: Texas A & M to SEC Watch

This could be the perfect storm...

The barn loses accreditation, gets booted from the SEC, and A&M just slides neatly into the vacancy. The barn then becomes a member of CUSA and starts a rivalry with UAB.

I can dream, can't I?

Re: Texas A & M to SEC Watch

I honestly think that A & M's recruiting of the TOP Texas athletes would improve if they were to move to the SEC. I think a lot of high school football and basketball players would want the national exposure provided by the SEC.

Their games in football against especially LSU would be awesome. A & M vs Alabama would be another big rivalry.

A & M vs Kentucky in basketball would be a challenge and A & M could pull some of the very best basketball players in Texas so they could compete against Kentucky, LSU, et al.

I say A & M move NOW while the SEC is I think willing to bring you into the FAMILY of great schools/teams. If you have to DROP the Horns from your schedule. If not maybe A & M could improve it's overall record against the Longhorns. The Longhorns are arrogant. You don't need that.

I would love to see the Aggie Band in Bryant-Denny Stadium every other year.

If we need to sweeten the deal to get them.

What might be holding up this deal is their having to play that high school team in Southwest Georgia known as A.P.I. I know that A & M is the Barn of Texas, but the Barn colors are much prettier. The Texas Barn is bigger and better academically than A.P.I. They have about 50,000 students.

I think the main problem is the Texas Legislature and possibly the Governor. However, it's TIME to make the move.

And UAB owns them!!! I can dream too!

Re: Texas A & M to SEC Watch

I don't understand the love being shown to aTm by the Bama Faithful. I'll never forget nor forgive their fans' behavior when Fran bolted for Barn-West. I don't particularly care for Texas, but I hope they squash aTm.

You can now return to the aTm love-fest.

Politics are a big part of it. It's not just UT and the Aggies. On the political side, you have TTU and Baylor that would be left whistling in the wind if the Big 12-2 fell apart. OU and OSU have options, but which major conference is going to take a school out in the middle of nowhere in west TX or a private Baptist school sandwiched between Austin and DFW?

Forgive and forget. There are more positive connections between the Aggies and Bama than negative, including Coach Bryant and Coach Stallings.

So I guess I should love Maryland and Kentucky, too? Nah, aTm is what it has always been, a stepping stone to bigger & better things. The SEC can and should do better.

Re: Texas A & M to SEC Watch

I'm not sure what will happen if TAMU is the only one willing to come (other than Baylor or TTech). OU sounds like they want to stay with Texas no matter what. However I think Texas will go independent before going to the PAC 12-too much money they would have to share with the conference. Would the SEC being willing to deal with a 13 school conference? I don't see an ACC school coming over either.

Re: Texas A & M to SEC Watch

ESPN Insider has started to weigh in on the matter as well, nothing different from the Travis article though. Also, I got an email from my brother today, it was a post from one of the UA paysites...am I allowed to post that here or is that a no-no?

Since the Big Whatever is obviously not going to be around much longer and since this is an offseason discussion; my recommendation would be to leave the SEC at 12, but boot Vanderbilt, add Missouri to the SEC West and move the boogs to the SEC East. Since the 'Dores have such a great football following, nobody in Nashville would even realize they were no longer in the SEC.
