What is all the hubbub about Tank Johnson and the gun charges? I read some where that the police raided his home and found...... guns (hope thay dont RAID my house). Does anyone know if Illinoise(sp) has some kind of gun law different than Alabama? The judge said that he could travel to the Super Bowl, thank God. I dont know if this is a teaser thread or not, if so please feel free to move it.:BigA:

Roll Tide and Go Bears!!!

Something more is going on here than just the guns...

I don't know what, don't have any inside info...but why does the Police just raid a house to get a guy who has guns without a license? They were looking for something else and this is all they can nail him on. His bodyguard was shot and killed around the time of the raid...something is rotten in the state of Illinois.

It isn't just one thing, a lot of questionable stuff is going on around Tank Johnson. Remember though, agree with guns laws or not (many of us do not) most responsible gun owners do follow the laws. I own a AK-47 for example and there is nothing illegal about it.

Anyway, here's a quote from wikipedia:
"During his second year in the NFL, he was arrested at the Excalibur nightclub in Chicago for possession of a handgun. Johnson pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor gun charge and was sentenced to 18 months probation and 40 hours of community service. [2]

On February 12, 2006, Johnson, while still on probation, was charged with aggravated assault and resisting arrest after verbally threatening a police officer. Johnson was leaving Level Nightclub on Chicago's Rush Street when the police officer was ticketing a limousine driver who Johnson had hired. As Johnson put up a struggle, he was maced and subdued with the help of other police officers. The charges were eventually dropped. [3]

On December 14, 2006, police officers searched Johnson's home in Gurnee, Illinois, and discovered that he possessed six firearms, including two assault rifles. Although Johnson was at practice during the search, his bodyguard William Posey was arrested from his house for possession of marijuana. Johnson will likely face a misdemeanor charge, which carries a penalty of up to a year in jail. Bears coach Lovie Smith deactivated Johnson for the following game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but the NFL has yet to make a decision regarding disciplinary actions. [4]

Days after Johnson's arrest, William Posey was killed in a shooting at Ice Bar in Chicago's River North neighborhood. Posey was shot after he was involved in a fight around midnight. Posey was rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:30am. Posey's assailant was not apprehended by the police.[5]"

Illinois, being the cesspool of liberalism that it is, has decided that the whole "right to bear arms" thing is not to be tolerated. Citizens are not allowed to own private weapons.

When we lived up there a few years back, a man in an upscale northern suburb of Chicago (I think it was Lake Bluff), shot and killed a man who had broken into his home in the middle of the night attacked the homeowner, and was robbing the house. The homeowner was charged with murder. Not self-defense. Murder and illegal weapons possession.:mad2:

Two opinions from me.

1) Yes, Illinois is very, very liberal and Chicago's Mayor Daley has placed a ban on all weapons because of the High Murder rate from the gang members. At least that's what the Chicago Post has said in recent years when I lived there.

2) Tank Johnson is a pretty good football player and a strong force for the d-line. However, I don't see the use of bodyguards if you're going to carry a gun. This man makes A LOT of money. Seems to me that TJ surrounds himself with the wrong crowd on purpose.

I hope the BEARS win because that's where I spent my childhood and I watched the 1985 Superbowl when I was 10. I hope the Bears get rid of TJ because I would rather lose with classy players than win with thugs like TJ.
