Pay 2 million dollars to not play BYU

It’s bad enough that they ran away from playing Army this year in a game that was supposed to be an “honoring Tennessee veterans” special weekend only to replace it with playing Ball St on a Thursday night. Now they are running away from a H&H contract with BYU, BYU of course beat them in Knoxville in 2019 as the 1st part of this contract, and paying them 2 million dollars not to play them so they can play Virginia in Nashville next year.

I get what you're saying, but if BYU didn't want to risk having this occur, they could have refused to include a buyout option in the contract. Tennessee might have declined the series at that point, but at least then BYU would have known who they were dealing with.

Rumors are that Oklahoma wants to jump next year but Texas wants to jump 2024. Texas wants the Bama-Texas non conference money. Georgia getting rid of Oklahoma really means nothing when the other part of that H and H is in 2031. Why would Georgia agree to go to Oklahoma next year and have their home game in the series canceled by the SEC because they are now a conference member? Alabama is about to cancel the Oklahoma series as well. Same thing. I would also assume Alabama would consider canceling one of the 2024- 2025 non conference games to make room for a 9 game conference schedule.

Tennessee canceling a game with Army this year that was specifically booked to honor Tennessee veterans that weekend and canceling a return trip to Provo to play Virginia is far different by comparison.
