I saw where Shula had an in-home visit with 3 star RB Terry Grant. Grant is also looking at FSU. I thought we weren't bringing in any more RB's in this class? Anyone have any insight to this, or are we recruiting him at another position?

that's what we were told but maybe Grant is an exception. The staff may consider him the all-purpose, play some in the backfield, and some in the slot type player.

Alabama is still very interested in running back Terry Grant and the feeling is mutual. He listed four schools as his favorites. Alabama, FSU, Southern Miss, and Clemson. He said they are all equal right now and he plans on making a decision early next week after his visit to Memphis or on NSD.

Bama Mag: Terry Grant Profile

From his profile, it looks like he is extremely fast. They say he's the fastest player coming out of Mississippi this year. It looks like the coaching staff is trying to add some much needed speed to our skill areas and return game. It almost seems like the staff is going after some players who have the "Prothro" mold. Any ideas?

Rivals lists Grant as a four star and #87 on their top 100 board. Scout lists him as a three star. This one puzzles me a bit. No doubt they are recruiting him as a runningback. I like Grant's attitude and wish him the best no matter where he goes.

I have always hoped Bama would sign Terry Grant. It certainly looked like Bama was not after any other RBs after turning away Anthony Dixon. I guess it was the big backs that they didn't want. It is good news that Grant didn't commit to FSU on his visit this weekend. I like Bama's chances to land another Mississippi Mr. Football.

Grant keeping USM on hold
Speculation had Grant narrowing his list to USM and FSU, but Dyess said Alabama is on it, too.

"It's killing him," Dyess said. "It's been a process that he hasn't particularly enjoyed a whole lot, and the hardest part for him is when he's going to have to pick up the phone and tell somebody that he's not coming."

Dyess said Grant likely won't make his decision known until right before signing day. "Or it could be after that," Dyess said. "I just don't know."

according to his coach, Bama might hold the slight lead....but he's been "bouncing back and forth"....

all I can say is wow.....had really written him off a couple of weeks ago. :eek2:

seriously, let's fastforward to 2007 after this class has taken a redshirt, if necessary....

Jimmy Johns, Jr.
Roy Upchurch, Soph
Glen Coffee, Jr.
Ali Sharrief, Soph
Mike Ford, Fr or Soph
Terry Grant, Fr or Soph (if he commits)
Max Martin, Jr.

Not bad. Gives me goose bumps.

According to several USM sources, there seems to be a great deal of talk about Grant and Talbert being a "package deal"... whichever way one goes the other will follow (don't have any clue how credible the sources are because I'm not a regular reader of the USM fans). According to the sources, Alabama has an edge for them at this point (as BOL reported with Grant). Am not aware of the connection between the two... but I do know this: the frenzy around Grant at USM right now parallels our situation with Tebow last month. BTW, the reason I believe we take him and not Eason/Dixon likely is because of the fact that we have at least 3 other RB's like them right now (Castille, Johns, & Ford if he qualifies). Right now, there's no RB on scholarship that fits his type of profile... Upchurch is probably the closest in comparison.

Chuck, I'm just speculating when I say this but the thought has crossed my mind several times over the last few months.

Notice we aren't recruiting what I would call a true fullback. It makes me wonder if there is the possiblity Shula may be thinking about moving to a split-back offense...especially when you start looking at our depth at RB.
