Texas Tech Article in New York Times

Very interesting story. Coach Leach does appear to act like a mad genius. But his application of spatial theory to the football field has produced results that can't be ignored. Of course my favorite part of the story is the whipping on Fraud. The sand pit, the tennis balls are innovative ways of approaching the game and have produced results. Just think people on here are upset because Coach Shula practiced without pads. If you deviate from the norm people look at you differently, but if you are successful people refuse to acknowledge your success because it could change their beliefs. If you fail then people hold up your deviance as the source of the failure further re-enforcing their convictions.

Yeah, Leach is a little different. Not long after he arrived in Lubbock, the Tech fan base started calling him TSO (The Strange One). There are still a bunch of GOB's (Good Ole Boys) in Lubbock, but a vast majority (99%) support Leach 100%--including me. The guy truly has a great offensive mind.

One of the reasons that I think Tech will keep Leach (contrary to what other teams in the Big 12 think /want) is because TSO has such an abtuse personality. Clearly, I don't think he would interview all that well, and he's not a "Rah Rah" chearleader type of Coach. This does not play well with GOB's.

Leach has got a good deal in Lubbock. He makes roughly $1.5 Million, and will probably get another pay raise at the end of this year or next, and he makes sure that his assistants are paid well. In fact, our Inside Receivers Coach told Baylor "thanks but no thanks" when offered the Offensive Coordinator job.

I know nothing of Leach other than Shaud Williams transferred as soon as Spike Dikes left and Leach arrived.

Shaud Williams, the pride of Andrews, Texas. Damm fine RB. He probably could have done well in TSO's system, but I think he never really bought into the system in its infancy. Nice guy too.

Yeah, but you see what practicing without pads got us. I doubt if Shula EVER does that again.

in the third year ain't enough?

what was mike dubose's record in his 3rd year (i know that anology doesn't fly, but i think there's evidence to suggest that mike shula is not a proven winner to this pt)? anyway, if i were king i'd choose leach over shula right now. shula can still get better, though. hopefully he gets a lot better by firing the OL coach.

on another subject, i was reading the friday with fran, and he in fact did not himself inform the entire team about firing torbush. instead, he told the defensive leaders and let them tell the rest of the team. what a pansy.

Old School vs New School!!

I think the Cotton Bowl match-up between Texas Tech and Bama will be a great one!

Here you have the traditional, power-house Defense of Bama vs the new technology, high powered Offense of Texas Tech......

The unstoppable object meets the unmovable object = a pretty good football game on paper; that is!!! lol

I, for one think this one will be a very good game for the football fans and showcases Bama's D in it's almighty glory!

I think the "Bear" would be proud of us going back to his old stomping grounds, taking on the Red Raiders in the confines of the Cotton Bowl!

I cannot wait!

How about the rest of you Tiders????

RTR, beat the Red Raiders!!!

I don't think one extra day in pads at the end of a long season would have made any difference. Auburn had more talent on their D line than we had on our O line. thats the bottom line. We just gotta hope the coaches can rectify that situation.
