1. He feels more comfortable upstairs in the box than he does on the sidelines.

Well, that and he's a pansy. I mean, seriously, he's more suited to be a high school history teacher than a SEC football coach.

Wait, I misspoke.

What I meant to say is that CDD is an amazing coach with better-than-Saban-like upside - he just needs time. Like a 10 year contract with $100m buyout.

Hes normally on the sideline; he just had surgery, thus he's in the press box.
AKA - he's trying anything to save his job as he has no clue.

Once again, I misspoke.

What I intended to say is much like Paterno, CDD is a legend in the making, he just needs a few more years (decades).

The only reason I would like to see Dooley get fired is so that Auburn has one less head coaching candidate.

I'd be okay with Dooley being their next head coach. Chizik, if nothing else, could recruit.

And I do mean NOTHING else. ;p

The one thing that makes Derek Dooley a head coach is.......his Daddy was a head coach. (This is why there are all those great winning coaches like the sons of Bryant, Osborne, Bowden, Paterno, and Hayes :) )

Spare me what he inherited. Nick Saban inherited a team serving a five- year probation with zero depth that had wandered a decade in the wilderness & had them number one his second year. What's that? Nobody compares to CNS? Fair point.

But even Terry Bowden took over a team with consecutive losing seasons and hit with major sanctions - and won 20 in a row at a time when his program was the junior program in a smaller state recruiting against the national champs. And Dooley is more comparable to Buster Brown ability wise. They've shown no move towards improvement.

In short.....he stinks and wouldn't have the job if his name wasn't Dooley.

All CDD needs is a few more years to make 10rc into a bowl eligible program. Seriously the vols had a hole to come out of and it will take maybe 3 more years.
This really is the truth. Every fifty years or so a Nick Saban will come along, but 99.9% of coaches have to have at least enough to time to recruit at least one senior class.

Tennessee was in horrendous shape when he took over. When Kiffin left a ton of players left as well.

I really don't understand why people are so anxious to get rid of him.

Folks who buy animals (dogs, horses) always look at the animal's pedigree. The better the pedigree, the more they are willing to pay for an animal.
Derek Dooley was hired for the same reason. His father is well respected because of his coaching history, and Derek had also been an assistant to Nick Saban with the Miami Dolphins. With those factors together, there was no reason to believe that he would become any lesser of a coach than either his father or his former employer.

Given the record of the Bowden kids and the Shula kids (more specifically David), it is long past time to give that logic a rest. We are not talking racehorses here - and can you name any famous offspring of Secretariat?

Many guys are good coordinators but terrible coaches (Dan Henning, Mike DuBose, Mike Archer, Bill Oliver, even Cheeze Dip). And the SEC is not the place to get OJT.

I fall into this category. He's the first half-decent person they've had coaching at UT in decades, and in multiple instances he's continued to choose discipline over his own job security. PF and LK destroyed that program, and it takes time to climb back up into contention. VERY few coaches can resurrect a program in 2-3 years like CNS. I personally they keep Dooley and he makes them a respectable contender - so it's more fun to whip 'em each October.
