Well, we never have since, despite some here remembering "bad" years. The year before I arrived at Bama, 1956, we had the identical record. In 1955, our record was 0-10-0. I definitely didn't go to Bama for the football program... :D
I grew up a Bama fan. My Dad was in his early twenties during those seasons. He used to tell me about hitchhiking to the games, even when Bama seemed to never win.

Exactly. They gave up almost 500 yds and 31 pts to NC State. They were better defensively last year.
NCState is pretty good offensively... also, that game we were down to 3rd team corners and even had McCloud playing corner.

That said yes, NCState and Cuse moved the ball, we didn't play well.

Haha, I know I was looking at my step-dad's yearbook (I think it was called the Corolla but not sure because I never purchased one when I was at Bama) when I was in my early teens, and I expected to see Bama's football team dominating. I kept looking at the score for each game, and my jaw was nearly on the ground when there wasn't a single win to be found. I was shocked. I wondered what had happened, so I looked to see the coach's name- Ears Whitworth. I don't believe there are any statues of old Ears around. His complete and total failure led mama to make a call.
It was the Corolla. I bought one the first couple of years and then lost interest...

My mom and dad were both at Bama during the Ears era. I like you was shocked with how bad we were looking through the Corolla. I think during the 4 years they were at Bama we won 6 or 7 games. But like you say it lead to the Bryant era.

I'm with you. Bama is fairly easy to stop when you've got a good plan and good athletes. At least how the team is now.

Just imagine once Clemson slows/shuts down the running game. Anyone confident that Hurts will be able to stand back there and get 250+ yards passing?
At least Clemson has had troubles with a certain Bo Scarbrough, so hopefully that trend continues. Crap we averaged 6.5 per carry last year as a team.

I think most people on here are just addressing our chances of winning the championship within the present context -- i.e., golden era of Alabama football with one of the best coaches ever and several years of number 1 recruiting classes. There are major concerns regarding the number of injuries on defense and the questionable ability to sustain drives on offense. If we can overcome these obstacles we could have number 17. If not, we'll end up going home early.

Discussing these issues (again, within the context mentioned above) doesn't mean we want to go back to the days of Mike Shula, or Ears Whitworth for that matter.

I am, but not going to the game this year. Heartbreak in Tampa last year was enough for me. I just don't have confidence in our OC or QB to carry our wounded D.
Yeah that whole "2 losses in 2 years" thing...
WTH was Nick and Co. thinking?
We went with a true FR QB last year and lost so you want to...wait a minute :rolleye2:

Yes, and the Dumbose and Sheila years led to our current dominance with Saban. I suppose it is true that it is always darkest before the light. Fortunately, we have had a lot more light at Bama than darkeness. I say we should win another title and keep this thing going!
