The Good, the Bad and the Ugly…. Panther style:

Mine is gone too. He is now 11/18 on the year. He is struggling mightily! I was fairly confident in him under 40 yds but with the Miss last week and today, I say every drive that is in field goal range is now 4 down territory.
KD has a career in diplomacy in his future if he wants it. He implied to the sideline reporter that there was no issue with Talty and said they had pre-planned to give some reps to other kickers. I don’t recall ever seeing a backup kicker enter a game unless there was a problem with the primary, even in a bench-clearing blowout.

Good - everyone got to play

Bad - Talty's attitude. Dude gets booed because he acts like a jerk out there. Its simple, people don't like that. Then he missed the chip shot attempt. I did enjoy listening to the cheers after he made the extra point after the missed FG.....like a little 5 year old that just kicked his first soccer goal.

Ugly - Something is wrong with Ty. I don't know if its a physical issue or a mental one, but something is off. Is his confidence shot? Is he second guessing himself? He's lucky he got up from that shot he took to his thigh too.

I don't think the students booing and lifting overly-enthusiastic mocking cheers for made extra points was smart. But Talty's own divisive behavior, coupled with a lack of publicly-expressed remorse, has a lot to do with his current situation.

Honestly. I think it was more an expression of distaste for his post kick antics last week. Missing is one thing. You usually won't get the entire stadium booing you for a single missed kick in a game, especially one like this one. You WILL get booed for showing your butt and chewing out the long snapper and then not being apologetic about it that next week.

Good: focus even though it was a seriously overmatched opponent. Lack of injuries. Interestingly enough, the first usually drives the second in games like this.

Bad: Ty is turnover prone and that’s a liability. If there is one single factor that will lose the game next week, it is turnovers. When we lose down there, it’s almost always because of turnovers.

Ugly: FG kicking. Enough said.

I agree with you on Ty unfortunately.

After the last however many games we’ve had a fumble and or INT the main goal yesterday should have been a clean stat sheet with ZERO turnovers.

I held nothing back last year wrt to #4 and his propensity to give the other team the ball so it would be hypocritical of me to not acknowledge we have a problem.

The OL and RB protection has been a nightmare and I understand that Ty is banged up but he has got to stop giving the other team the ball.

We will not be able to achieve season goals in these final few games by giving the other team free possessions every single week up to 2 and 3 times.

I am not overly critical of him for those 2 on Saturday. Not sure how many of you were able to watch the game, but the second INT was a hail Mary at the end of the first half so to me that’s a garbage stat. On the first one, there was a replay from field level behind Ty and our receiver looked wide open. The guy that intercepted the ball was totally hidden from view and I swear must have had a 48” vertical to jump up and catch that ball.

Good -- The defense. Surrendering the fewest yards in 85 years. I don't care if it is Eastern Illinois, that's impressive.

Bad -- Really average....QB 1 play. Ty looks hurt to me.

Ugly -- Placekicking and fan reaction. Details below.

The fans -- especially students -- booing Talty isn't good for his confidence. We might need him next week.

That said, Talty has made his own bed.

He wasn't performing all that great anyway. Then last week he chewed out the long-snapper for a high snap despite the fact that the holder did a magnificent job of getting the ball down on time and perfectly. IOW, the high snap shouldn't have mattered. But it's clear that the high snap distracted Talty's focus. He shanked the ball, dang near missing the whole end zone, and pointed his ten fingers in every direction except at himself.

A more mature person would have said something along the lines of, "In the PK team, we all have roles to play. Snap. Hold. Protect. Kick. I thought I put a good swing on the ball, but obviously that wasn't the case. We make kicks as a team. We miss them as a team. If I had done my job better, we might not be having this conversation. I will do everything in my power to make sure this doesn't happen again."

But he didn't do that. In fact, based on his behavior, I can't picture those words coming out of his mouth.

He pointedly and publicly (on the field in front of 100K+ live spectators and who knows how many million TV viewers) chewed out a teammate in a humiliating fashion for an error that was at least as much his own fault as it was the teammate's. Later, there was no backing down. No apology after the emotion wore off. Only a deafening silence.

If you're going to be a kicker and be a jerk, you best not miss. Talty has the jerk part down. The part about not missing, not so much.

I don't think the students booing and lifting overly-enthusiastic mocking cheers for made extra points was smart. But Talty's own divisive behavior, coupled with a lack of publicly-expressed remorse, has a lot to do with his current situation.
Yeah, I hope we are giving the PK position a reassessment in the off-season.

How did Notaro look?

May have been pre-planned after last week's performance...
