2016 Election - Clinton: The Hillary Clinton Thread

The intent was based on privacy (misguided), not distribution of classified info.

My intent was to talk to the guy who cut me off in traffic. The fact that I crushed his skull with a tire iron was just an unfortunate outcome....my intentions are what you should focus on, not the felony that occurred as a result

Terrible analogy. Nothing bad is known to have resulted (yet) from her misguided intent.

Well Mr. Smarty Pants, name a democratic congressional investigation that cost millions!!

Iran-Contra cost $47.4 million in 1986-1994. And only ONE person (who you'd have to Google to name) went to jail. The two best-known names - North and Poindexter - had their convictions overturned.

$47.4 million to put a guy named Thomas Clines in the slammer. Good one. That's $84 MILLION nowadays, and I don't recall one Democrat speaking up about the cost of that one.

Well Mr. Smarty Pants, name a democratic congressional investigation that cost millions!!

and since you're comeback will be to try and turn Iran-Contra into a bipartisan investigation (it should have been investigated but folks are naïve if they believe the same folks who investigating it would have done that on their own party guy).

The October Surprise investigation cost $1.35 million, which figuring for inflation is $2.3 million. this was that incredibly important (and naïve) notion that they lost the 1980 election because Reagan got the Iranians to agree to not release the hostages before the election. (This had such incredible relevance by 1991, when Reagan had already been re-elected and left the scene and Bush had already been elected in his own right).

"By the end of his term, 138 Reagan administration officials had been convicted, had been indicted, or had been the subject of official investigations for official misconduct and/or criminal violations. In terms of number of officials involved, the record of his administration was the worst ever." ("Sleep-Walking Through History: America in the Reagan Years," by Haynes Johnson, (1991: 184),

(But I want you to note something VERY CAREFULLY - note that this puts those INVESTIGATED with those CONVICTED as if those are one and the same).

But now for the context provided by three-time Reagan biographer and WaPo reporter, Lou Cannon:

"They were often defensive, which had the effect of making the administration's ethics-in-government record seem worse than it was. In fact, a majority of those accused of ethical misconduct in the Reagan administration were cleared of any legal wrongdoing." ("President Reagan: The Role of a Lifetime," 2001: 717).

Ever hear of Raymond Donovan? He was Reagan's Secretary of Labor and became the first sitting Cabinet member in US history to be indicted. What was he indicted for? He was "accused of scheming to defraud the New York City Transit Authority of $7.4 million on a subway construction project in the late 70's and early 80's."

Yeah, you know - BEFORE he held office (which amazingly enough when Clinton took office suddenly became the old 'what he did before he got the job doesn't matter'). And what did the jury foreperson say?

"After the verdict, the jury forewoman, Ms. Milligan, was asked in an interview whether she agreed with the defense contention that the case was politically motiviated.

''Yes, in some ways,'' Ms. Milligan, an X-ray technician, said.

In point of fact, almost ALL of the special prosecutors appointed were politically motivated.

Wedtech Investigation - James McKay, a Democrat, spent $1.7 million in 1988 (almost $3.5 million in today's money) to determine that there was insufficient evidence that Ed Meese was guilty of 'conflict of interest.'

What's amusing to me is this: some of you folks are upset that the Republicans nowadays are playing a game the Democrats mastered long ago of creating the perception of corruption. (Btw - saying 'these scandals didn't happen back in the day' is hogwash; the reason there weren't 138 special prosecutors appointed back in the 1920s is because: a) there was no 1978 Ethics in Government Act that was so poorly written anyone could be accused of almost anything; and b) there was no 1974 Independent Counsel Law).

Of course, the problem with applying it this way is Republicans learned the wrong lessons from it. With the basic exception of Watergate and Nixon's resignation (which would never happen in today's moral climate comparatively speaking), nobody has really benefited from it. The most serious scandal without a doubt was Iran-Contra, and guess what? Bush clobbered the Democrat in the election, so what exactly did it get them?

You don't get to talk out of one side of your mouth about how you have all this EXPERIENCE and then do something so incredibly stupid that an autistic child would know to not do it. That's as ridiculous as a guy claiming to be a successful business man but filing bankruptcy every time you turn around or saying he'd finance his own campaign and then cries for money like a TV preacher.

Given the intelligence of most autistic children I've personally known - especially as it relates to technology - it's not surprising they would know not to do it. What is surprising is that 1. Hillary supposedly didn't know, which is BS and 2. I repeatedly see stupid and autistic child in the same sentence from one or a few people. I'm not going to get in a big tizzy about it. I refuse to take it personally even though I have more than one autistic child in my home because those statements say more about the people uttering them than they do my children and I'm not going to talk about it further in this thread. I said what I felt needed to be said and if anyone wishes to discuss it further we can do so in private.

Is this a better analogy?
Drunk drivers do not intend to harm anyone but when they do, their intent is not considered.

Of course it's a terrible analogy for you.....

They are both felonies.....so at least some Dem somewhere must have equated the two. Maybe even Hillary or Hank Johnson

As a federal employee, I have to do annual training in more than a dozen subjects (interactions with contractors, ethics, anti-terrorism, protecting my personal information, etc.). I just recently finished this year's training on protecting classified information. I asked the instructor if I could set up my own offsite server ..... I was told that if I did that I would be fired and would need a good lawyer to stay out of jail. It's a good thing I asked because I had no idea that was wrong.

From what I heard during the Comey hearings congress can still do it.:conf2:

One of the things that's "interesting" about working for the feds is that there are rules (the size of two Manhattan phone books) for everything. And yet many of these rules contradict each other. And someone from on high can instruct you to disregard the rules. Unless someone else from on high gets mad. Then you're in trouble.

NT15,

1) My apologies to you because I'm well aware (externally) of the struggle

2) My own son is high functional autism (Aspberger's) and in special ed, which is why I've used the example, but I will not do so any longer.

Again - sincerest apologies.

Selma, I didn't think your intent was evil. And I'm not mad about it. In the past I've gotten all bent out of shape in situations like this and blew my top. I've been trying to change myself. And the truth is that if I didn't live this life I would probably say something like that myself. I know because when I was young and, shall we just say "less experienced" (which you are free to interpret as "stupid"), I did just that. And because I, unlike you, have a horrible memory within personal relationships (dates and facts and especially numbers are a different matter altogether) I did not remember that your child has Asperger's. I appreciate the apology, though. My feelings aren't my issue though. I'm more concerned with how others view my kids. As you know, the deck is already stacked against them. So here's an awkward attempt at a good old-fashioned SBC handshake and hug.

Well it's okay.

How about this?

Hillary Clinton, who according to the Empty Suit in the Oval Office is the most qualified person to ever seek the Presidency, did something a 17-year old Army private in boot camp knows better than to do. Hell, Sarah Palin would know not to do what this allegedly intelligent woman did.

Now THAT"S a cutdown, and a most likely true one at that.

In reality, anyone who doesn't think she knew what she was doing and was doing it for nefarious reason (I'm NOT saying she gave the Chinese the URL and password or that she intended the data breaches that occurred, only that she was skirting the law on purpose to not be subject to FOIA and the like) is either merely a useful idiot or a shill.

The connection between autism and intelligence is not coincidental. It's not by chance that Huntsville has something like the 3rd highest rate of autism in the country and also one of the highest ratios of PHDs per capita...

My next door neighbor and her husband moved next door to my wife and I here in Swearengin Alabama from Maryland about 6 or so months ago and she used to work for the NSA, been there for 15, 20 years I can't recall exactly now but now works for Raytheon in Huntsville. I think they first moved to Florida around Tampa for a couple months before coming here but they both are originally from Maryland.

Her job with the NSA involved hacking into computers as well as other things and her husband told me that she was in charge of the intelligence and computer technology making sure everything worked correctly during the Navy special forces operations killing of Osama Bin Laden. That was all she would tell him about what she was doing and he said she was stressed to max during that time and may have led to her decision to leave afterwards and go to Raytheon. She develops guided missiles systems at Raytheon. Her husband worked for a construction company laying new lines at the White House not long before they moved as well. He said they were not even allowed to look at Obama when they seen him outside lol! ;)

Anyways, back in the winter, December, my neighbors were at our place having a beer and a glass or two of wine and she said then if anyone else has done what Hillary did they would be under the jail! She didn't elaborate of course on the specifics but I could tell she knew what she was talking about. She also knew nothing would be done about it then. ;)
