Making the NIT is no guarantee of winning the NIT. oNE AND OUT in the NIT would be hard to swallow. I don't think there would be much fan interest and the players would be disappointed.

Not only that, but the NIT is no way to measure the success of a program. You want to know where you measure up to the perennial basketball powerhouses? You have to play against them to find out. Even if you get knocked out in the first round, at least you know where you stand.

In most years I'd go with the NCAA. But I've got to go with the NIT this year. If you look at our team's performance in clutch games (Vandy, Florida, Georgia, 2 SEC Tourney) we're 2-3. I think we need to mature (not to mention getting a real outside shooter) and the NIT gives us the best chance of doing that in my opinion. Stepping in and getting clobbered in a play-in game vs Clemson would have been worse in my opinion for a young team that really looks to come back almost intact next year.

i highly doubt Clemson would clobber us. With the possible rest, we could have competed with plenty of top teams in the country.

I think this team would benefit more from a deep run, in the NIT, than one-and-done. Doesn't mean I am happy with the outcome, but you have to make something with this opportunity. We shall see.

Too bad we won't get to beat (again!) some teams that have no business being in the Big Dance.

we have in the past used a strong NIT performance to move to our first (and only) #1 national ranking and being in the Elite 8 in the tournament the following year. the NIT is the best thing for this team. next year should be a great year!

That NIT game against Virginia in BJCC was my
1st Alabama Basketball game. Mule King set the
single game scoring record that game. Ralph Sampson
was not on that team. It was Sampson & Sam Bowie's
senoir year of HS & Kentucky nearly got them both.

*snicker* We are dead-legged at this late point in the season. So where is this 'rest'? You realize that this year we would have likely been in a play-in game if we had made the field of 68? So, no rest there. And which top teams? Kentucky? They're not a top team and they killed us in the Championship game.....it's been a long season. We are where we should be. It's okay.
