I'll qualify this by saying I'm a Braves fan. Have been for my entire life.

Having said that, the new MLB playoff format gripes on my last nerve.

The Braves have to play a one-game series against a team that lost six more games than the Braves. One game and they could be out to a team that lost six more games.

Does anyone else see this as just being completely unfair?

I'm not a baseball fan so I don't have a favorite team and I don't care who wins the World Series. I might watch a game here and there, but thats about it. Now having said that, I think this is the dumbest playoff format I've ever heard of. I can't figure out why 162 games isn't enough to determine who the #4 team will be...especially when #4 and #5 aren't even close record-wise. It's really a laughable format.

I understand the format. ONLY if it's needed. The game is not needed for the NL.

This year is a great example of the negatives of a playoff that only goes by the division winners and a wild card team. The Tigers won the AL Central, yet Tampa Bay won two more games (finished 3rd in the AL East) and the Angels won one more game (finished 3rd in the AL West). How fair is that? Luckily, the NL isn't that bad. The only team getting ripped is the Braves. Atlanta has the same record as the NL West winning Giants.

Signed,
Life-long Braves fan

Absolutely unnecessary and was only implemented to make more money. It is obvious between the two NL teams who deserves to be playing and who does not. I've been saying for months that I think we (the Braves) will lose, just because it feels to me like that a format as dumb as this cannot possibly cause a just result. I pray that I'm wrong on this one. Go Braves!

Not that it'll matter, but I'm gonna be ticked if the Braves lose tomorrow. Anything can happen in one game.

This is a one-game playoff format, usually reserved for two teams tied for the playoff spot. It's garbage.

I think these young guys (my age or a little older) are like me. They grew up watching Larry Wayne playing and want to send him out on top.

I would eliminate divisions and take the top four teams in each league. I don't think it's right for teams with better records than other playoff teams to be left out completely.

I didn't think it's right when 7-9 or 8-8 NFL teams make the playoffs over teams with better records, either. When a team wins a division with a .500 record they almost always had an easier schedule too because that means the division teams that they play so often are bad.

I think the format it stupid as well, I'd be a little more ok with it if it was at least a best of 3 series (which I honestly thnk theyll move to in a few years).

It is what it is and the Braves are in the postseason. I'm confident, the Braves don't lose with Medlen on the mound, Braves win 3-1 with Kimbrel striking out the side in the 9th.

Choptober!!

Braves fans who hate this format would probably have loved it last year. ;)

I don't like the format, either - why continue to play a 162 game season if you are going to let a third of the teams into the playoffs? I thought the purpose of the 162 game season was to ensure that the teams that played the best over the course of a long season were rewarded in the post-season. But how many wild-card teams have won the World Series, knocking off teams with many more wins in the regular seasons? Teams that would not have even made the playoffs when they moved MLB to the 162 game season.

IMO, the wild card has eliminated the need for a 162 game season. Bad games being played in poor conditions for the sake of the almighty $.

Life long Braves fan so I hate it and Selig.

for the record I would have been against it last year as well. Braves monumental collapse did not deserve the playoffs. it would have just delayed the inevitable for one more game.

I hate this whole format too. I am a huge Braves fan and I am going to be a nervous wreck this afternoon when the game starts. One game to decide their post season future. Its like the way I feel every Bama game.
