The official Top 3 coaches we should pursue thread

We've gone from a home run to a strike out. Looks like we need a mulligan. Question is, Will we get one? I love how the criteria has gone from a coach who has one a national championship to one that has good credentials.

(1) Anybody but Nutt.
(2) Anybody but Cutcliffe.
(3) Anybody but Gailey.

I'm about ready to roll the dice on Paul Johnson myself. But make no mistake ... it would be a big gamble.

Wake Forrest's head coach would be a nice choice. This whole situation reminds me of our baseball coaching search. We thought it would be easy to find a replacement because of our tradition and history, that eded up not being the case. I really like coach M, but I still have no idea if it was a good hire.

Greg Schiano
Norm Chow
Jimbo Fischer

Agreed. Very good list, except I think the only possibility is Fisher. I think Chow stays somewhere in the NFL and Schiano stays at Rutgers if he already turned down UM.

I'm still trying to figure out how you guys missed Mal Moore saying.... "Proven Head Coach"

Assuming your not being sly against MM, my answer is the same way you missed the title of the thread, who we should pursue, not who we can pursue under MMs self-imposed sanctions.

1. Kines
2. Kragthorpe
3. Gailey

Im pretty sick about this situation. I guess im not in the mood to try and pick three candidates. But, i will ask some questions.

1. Paul Johnson-Seems to be unproven. Winning at Navy is quite different than winning in the SEC or even at WVU.

2. Greg Schiano-Seems to be a flavor of the week. Although, he was quite impressive this year. Dont really see him as being a real candidate since he just signed a big extension with Rutgers.

3. Sherman-Why?

Sorry to be so doom and gloom. I dont really know how else to be right now.

Since I am officially on the bandwagon now...

1. Paul Johnson- the man who went 62-10 in Div. II at Georgia Southern and won two national titles and who's Navy squad is going to a better bowl than Alabama.
2. Paul Johnson- the man who is currently 26-10 (.703 winning percentage) at Navy where they do not recruit football players but sailors. **And don't say winning at Navy isn't all that hard because the team was 2-10 the year before he arrived**
3. Paul Johnson- the man who won the 2004 Bobby Dodd National Coach of the Year Award and who's team is currently ranked number one in rushing average as a team.

1. Bob Stoops 'nuff said
2. Chris Peterson great offensive mind
3. Paul Johnson just a winner

But if MM and the folks at the top pulling his strings aren't removed, it'll be another joke of a coaching search. Just like the last 3. It's time for leadership, and ours aren't leading.
