The policy and politics of Trumpism

Mike Cernovich did an AMA on Reddit today and it was glorious. Can't link for language, but they destroyed him.

I had never heard of him so I checked out his AMA. I lasted about 30 seconds reading the questions and decided he had to be a pretty disgusting person to get such questions.

Cernovich finished second to Laura Loomer in the "crappiest" twitter account tournament.

The right has some real winners amongst the "extremely online" types

Think the guy Hedley Lamarr interviewed in Blazing Saddles

and make him a basement dwelling alt-rightie, and you get Cernovich.

9th Circuit rules against Trump's third attempt at travel ban

A panel of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals on Friday ruled against the third iteration of President Trump's travel ban, saying it goes against federal law.

"We conclude that the President’s issuance of the Proclamation once again exceeds the scope of his delegated authority," the court said in its ruling.

The most recent iteration of the ban bars people from eight countries — six of which are predominantly Muslim — from coming to the U.S.

How classy.

The presidential coin undergoes a Trumpian makeover

For two decades, the commander in chief has doled out distinguished-looking coins as personal mementos. Now, the presidential “challenge coin” has undergone a Trumpian transformation.

The presidential seal has been replaced by an eagle bearing President Trump’s signature. The eagle’s head faces right, not left, as on the seal. The 13 arrows representing the original states have disappeared. And the national motto, “E pluribus unum” — a Latin phrase that means “Out of many, one” — is gone.

Instead, both sides of the coin feature Trump’s campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again.”

The changes don’t stop there. In addition to his signature, Trump’s name appears three times on the coin, which is thicker than those made for past presidents. And forget the traditional subdued silver and copper: Trump’s coin, a White House aide marveled, is “very gold.”

The aide said the president, whose real estate properties are known for their gilded displays of wealth and status, was personally involved in redesigning the coin.

Just checking in... Has Trump been locked up or impeached yet for the dirty Rooskie stuff? The year is almost over just wondering. ;)

Rtr anyways. That’s one thing 95% of us cheer for.

Just a bunch of indictments and guilty pleas. But like the White House says, it's all a nothingburger hoax.

RTR

No.....and odds are it will never happen. But ssshhhh.......don't tell those hell-bent on revenge.

If 41 couldn't get reelected, this lying incompetent fool sure wont.

Uh, Nixon got re-elected AFTER the Watergate break-in.

Reagan got re-elected after the worst recession since the Great Depression.

Clinton got re-elected despite honest and trustworthy numbers that were awful.

Why? Believe it or not, the country preferred them to the alternative they were offered.

My big fear is that the GOP, which tends to be authoritarian, won't put up someone they put all their chips on to take Trump out in the primary (that's actually a rarity). And along with that the Democrats will get huffy and arrogant with their naive assumption, "Well, now that they've had him for three years there's NO WAY they'll re-elect him so let's get the most liberal d-bag we can find" and they nominate someone so far to the left of insanity that he wins again.

Don't think it can't happen - what do you think George McGovern was?

At the same time, I think the Dem's punching back at the left and turning right towards "electability" has created this undifferentiated mess that is pushing us further right too.

The next cycle of nominations will be fascinating for political watchers. IF Trump holds it together and nothing major happens - and I mean on the legal front or the coming recession hits in the next three years, he will be renominated by the Republican party. He's given them the tax cut which had become a desperate political necessity ("Don't come home without it.") Under him, they've managed to achieve the effective repeal of the ACA, some political cost, although they're hoping most of those 13 million either don't vote or vote for Trump, come hell or high water. They have no practical choice, hate him or not. On the Democratic side, the Republican's dream choice for Democrats would be, of course, Elizabeth Warren. The kicker is Joe Biden, who, IMO could have defeated Trump. He would be my age now in 2020 - 78 (groan). Like I said, fascinating...

I’m still under the opinion that he doesn’t run again, but if he does then the Democrats would be extremely foolish to run Warren. What they need is some neo liberal Democrat who either takes Republican votes away or makes them stay at home. Had Gore or Biden ran last year I think Trump wouldn’t have won the electoral vote. I just think putting a “progressive” would mobilize the Republican voting base too much to overcome.
