I know it`s relatively early, and I guess McVay leaning to Oregon (? Please, SJC, JB, correct me ) has me a bit spooked concerning O line, the U getting the kid with the Samoan name, etc. With that said, does anyone see us going to the portal? I can be a real eeyore with recruiting sometime!

Correct on self assessment.

A week or so ago..Alinen was all Miami...I said...relax....recruiting is fluid. Now, the experts are flipping their predictions to Bama. I'm not buying the Oregon hype with McVay. He will visit Tuscaloosa again before he makes a decision.

We've had 5-stars work out. We've had 5-stars bust. We've had 4-star All-Americas. We've had 4-star disappointments. Seth McLaughlin was a high 3-star / low 4-star project, and saved our bacon in the SECCG against UGA (his home-state flagship school).

OL is hard to project from HS to college, even for the greatest talent evaluator of all time. I've been disappointed in the development of the OL under previous coaching, and still view improvement in the front 5 as critical to our chances at an NC in the 2022 season.

A quick look at one service shows that there are only four 5-star OL recruits for December 2022 / February 2023. Other services may disagree slightly on the total, but they'll be close enough for discussion purposes.

Regardless of the exact count, I don't think we need to hoist the white flag if we don't get any of 4 +/- guys, who at this point in time have not played a single down of their senior year of high school ball.

Sure, I'd like to have all four 5-star OLs. That's not going to happen. I'll be happy if we get 3-4 guys Nick Saban is happy with.

We will likely have 5 high quality lineman in this class as usual. If saban look at guys in the portal it will be because there are guys worth looking at as usual. We are in line for a top 5 recruiting class.

Its is time to chill fellas.

Saw on another recruiting site that Kiyaunta Goodwin has entered the portal. Signed with Kentucky in 2022. This guy is 6'8" and 340 lbs. Bama probably needs to add a couple of offensive lineman.

Talk about dredging up an old thread! Thanks. As opposed to when I first expressed my concern, the hay`s now in the ( dare I say it ) the barn. Would really like to hear Jam, SJC, BB, speculate on our portal needs/interests ( if any ) since this class has signed.

Bama isn't just going to take someone just to take someone. They would want someone who could seriously push for playing time. Still a wait and see approach...scholarship numbers overall are limited with bringing in a larger class.
good insight - so from the group of OL we had for the the Sugar bowl, Steen, Ekiyor and Dalcourt are seniors and Randolf is a super senior. that leaves a pretty thin group with experience of Booker, Latham and McLaughlin. Then we have a lot of questions. Pritchett likely could have made a push if not for injury. Ferguson and Roberts - still young, but booker stepped ahead, then Brockermeyer who still needs some weight and that just 7 dudes so even with 5 coming in, that's just 12 so still seems a bit sparse to me.

One person said that Wolf doesn’t think there’s anyone on this team that can be a road grader style lineman. That’s not good if we are that thin.

Proctor could start at right day one.
McVay is heavy enough to be a guard, and the fella from Anniston as well.
I wonder if the Viking and the kid from Northridge will get a look at center. They are very tall, but only in the 300lb. Range.

I think Proctor will be in the mix for an OT role for sure, assuming his strength is up to par or gets there by fall. Of the other 4, I'm betting they ALL get a look to see how well they can handle the OC role, as well as Roberts and Ferguson. Our 2nd team guy now is listed at 6'3" and only 282. SM is already a bit light for the role, even though he should have been starting long before he was, but being in the 280-285 range just isn't big enough so I am sure the staff will be looking at options if JB can't gain the muscle needed.

Rolltide.com already has Alinen at 315, so all of this class except Formby is already bigger than most of the guys on campus now. for the returning guys on the roster, only Latham and Booker weight more than 315.

Bama recruited him and offered so someone must have thought he had potential. He was rated a 5* by one service. He isn't a senior. He was in the 2022 class. When Goodwin visited Alabama during his original recruiting, he said he was told by Coach Saban that he was one of the best “overall players” in the nation.
