Game Thread: The SEC Tournament Thread

The SEC tournament field is arguably every bit as hard to win as the dance this year. The first game we played of this tournament, I mean we won’t face another team of that caliber until at least the sweet 16. We won’t face a team like our presumed opponent tomorrow, Tennessee, until at least the elite 8.

Just ridiculous how good the SEC is this year.

He is good no doubt but the best in AU history??? Chuck Person, Barkley, and Mike Mitchell would argue that IMHO.
For real. There's no way he's better than Barkley. And there's no way he's going to be near the impact player in the NBA that Barkley was going forward. In fact, Broome is not an NBA player. He'll probably play in the G league some, sniff the NBA as a two-way contract, and then go overseas. Barkley was way better overall as a player. I saw Barkley in the state tournament back in the day with Leeds High School when they played it in T-Town.

In College? He would have a very solid case if he wills us to a deep run. He’ll be an All-American for the second time (first team this go around) and has already won one POTY of the year award (Sporting News) with good odds for the Wooden and Naismith.

he definitely doesn’t have the pro career in front of him of someone like, for example, Cooper Flagg.

That does not take away from his college career

True but Broome = Oscar Tshiebwe. Similar game, almost exact same accolades. Will have similar pro career. And that's why they both stayed around college so long. That's their peak, where they will ever be the most successful in their career. Plus, they could continue to make significant money in today's NIL world in college.

Not an unfair statement.

Broome is a slightly better pro-prospect than Tshiebwe was. He’s still a tweener but not to anywhere near the degree Oscar was.

He’ll probably go late first/early second and find himself on a bench somewhere as a glue guy for a few years. Never going to be an all-star though.

Part of that is just where the NBA is now. 20 years ago Broome would have been a sure-fire early 1st pick.

In a sense, one of the good things about NIL is that it keeps players in college longer now.

One of the greatest “what ifs?” for us will always be 2022. We had a great team that year with Jabari and Walker, but unfortunately we ended up with Wendell Green at PG. Imagine if we’d managed to hang on to Shariffe Cooper for that year. He just barely missed out on NIL.
