I don't recall buying tickets from scalpers as well. I would not pay the price to watch the game in the stands when I could be in my air conditioned home with my own private bathroom...ahh such comforts.
However, I see nothing wrong with selling a ticket for what it is worth to others. If others are willing to pay the price then so be it. That is their choice to go to the game. There are too many people that are season ticket holders that do not attend every game. You may not find a ticket at face value easily if you are not a season ticket holder, however, you can usually find a decent price if you do the research.
I refuse to pay the scalped prices that is why I bought season tickets.
Then you have to look at the companies that are in business to sell your tickets for you. For example Ticket City (one of our sponsors at Tidefans.com) and Stub Hub. When I received my season tickets from the University of Alabama, I also recieved an advertisement to sell my unused tickets at Stub Hub. I don't think anyone is selling their tickets for face value on these sites. If they are listed at face value (which is not the case at all) they are quickly snatched up.
Let's face it, if you have a car in your yard that you do not use, and someone offered you twice the value of this vehicle. Would you take it? Both parties have to agree on the transaction. Nobody is forcing anyone to pay more than face value for a ticket. If the tickets didn't sell for more than face value then scalpers would not be present.
On the other side of the coin, I have bought a ticket after the game has started for $5. Timing is an issue as well.
I do understand one's view on paying outrageous ticket price. I refused to pay them myself. However, if the market is there, then there are a number of fans selling for more than face value.
Now, buying season tickets for the sake of turning a profit, that is a whole new can of worms. That would deny a true fan of the team a seat at the game. That is against my values. I don't think I could buy season tickets to make money off less fortunate true fans. But there are people that do and business that make a lot of money doing so.
Flame me if you must, but this is my opinion.
