... of CBS will not be heard in our household during tomorrow's game. Verne is an obvious Vol fan who idolizes Fulmer, and his orange tinted broadcasting bias quickly wears thin. I still remember his glee when UT snatched last year's game from the jaws of defeat.

In our house, we will turn down the TV volume and listen to Eli and the Snake.

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree on this one. I happen to like Verne Lundquist and Blackledge. VL got excited quite often during our big plays. I don't think VL was/is as good as Sean McDonough was, but I think they do a nice job.

As for Eli, he isn't very good at all. I hate to admit that because he seems like a great guy. Same with Tom Roberts. Seems like a super nice guy but I absolutely can't stand his awshucks approach. I feel like throwing something at the Jumbotron when his weasely voice comes on narrating those flashback plays from the past. He speaks to his audience and ask questions to players as if he was talking to a room full of 4 year olds. Eli, on the other hand, has a better voice but is horrible at giving you the specifics of what is going on. If you aren't watching the game on TV, you have no clue as to the down and distance is. He also gets overly dramatic about relatively minor plays. Here is an example of what I'm talking about. It usually goes something like this. "The give to Hudson, HUGE HOLE!!....and Hudson picks up 2 yards on the play." He will also say the player gained about 6 yards and the next thing you hear him say is second down and 7. He calls the game as if everyone over the radio waves can see exactly what he sees and that as long as he is within a few yards of the play everything is cool. Hate to admit it, but we have one of the worst football broadcasts in the SEC. Our basketball announcers, on the other hand, are very good.

I share your situation having to listen via internet.

I wish Eli could keep up with the position on the field better. I guess he is only interested in the start of a NASCAR race and who finishes. He probably is a great guy; just wish he was not calling our football games.

Kenny Stabler is a plus,however.

IMO, listening to Eli and Snake is the ONLY way to listen to a Bama game! I've got about a 2 second delay b/c of TiVo, but I still listen to the radio if I'm unable to be at the game. So, if we get behind early, do you guys think Snake will get into the sauce a little bit? :biggrin2:

I totally agree about Eli's situational descriptions. To put it in simplest terms, he just falls short as a football announcer. It is VITAL to know what yard-line the ball is on at the end of every play; and he gives it to you maybe two-thirds of the time, and that is often innacurate.

On the other hand, I think Kenny does a nice job. Not TOP NOTCH, but nice. He makes some great observations, and he uses colorful language ("knocked the taste out of his mouth"), but he doesn't give us very much inside information. I wish we had someone for color who was full-time, who attended every paractice, and who could give us better insight into the various personalities.
