Yeah, it's too soon, but we're going into a weekend of playing popcorn st university so I figured this may keep us busy. From what you've seen play out this season with Ty, do you think he needs another year of college football or should he jump to the NFL if he's projected in the first round?

For me, I think he needs another year of college football, to be honest. As the season has played on defenses have made adjustments and some holes in Ty's game have appeared. He tends to hold onto the ball too long and has an issue of fumbling the ball. I think the holding onto the ball too long comes from defenses making adjustments and it's now his turn to make an adjustment. I think another full college season will not only help him, but it would also help Russell as well. As a fanbase we want Russell to hit the ground running when he does get his chance. We definitely do not want any "on the job training" experience to cost us three to four (or worse) games during the season. We want him as prepared as possible when he takes over and I think sitting one more year would do that.

He's not close to being ready. He needs to come back. We need to bolster the OL, and fix the RBs as well. I guess WR will have to be rebuilt. But he is not a 1st round pick*

*I say this knowing full well NFL teams will draft a guy in the 1st round who isn't even ready to be in the league as a practice squad player, let alone a starter.

Obviously, I selfishly want Ty to come back. With that said, is it best for him to come back in terms of his NFL draft potential or readiness, and I think the answer is that he's probably better off leaving this year than returning next season. This is a pretty abysmal QB draft class. Mendoza is the #1, and then it's probably Simpson. The following year would probably be a much higher quality QB class. I don't know that he's ready necessarily with only one season of starts in college, but I also don't know that he will make a meaningful jump as well, given that this is his 4th year as a college QB.

Needs another year. My only worry is not every player thinks like him and will wait their turn. There are many unscrupulous and dirty teams that will contact all of his backups and promise them the world.

To me it depends on the outlook for next year. If next year is going to be a rebuilding year, then I hope he goes and we let the next QB up work through growing pains. If there is a chance Bama can make a title run next year, then I hope Ty comes back--but it will likely cost us one or more of the QBs on the roster.

I see nothing that makes me think the Oline or running problems will be solved next year so that factors into the title run discussion and also possibly Ty's thoughts on whether he can showcase his skills better next year or not while having no running outlet and also facing pressure in his face constantly.

I agree whole heartedly that both Simpson and Russell would benefit from Ty’s return. The question is whether Keelon has the patience to sit in a back up role another year. Ty returns then Mack is most assuredly gone. And you can bet the “back channel” communications have begun in terms of gauging Keelon’s interests, both in playing opportunities and NIL. The “if Simpson comes back, then we can…” stuff.
Players with the patience Ty showed behind Milroe and Young these days are like trying to find Sasquatch. I just can’t see him saying no to almost guaranteed playing time elsewhere.

He’s not NFL ready yet and definitely needs another year starting in CFB.

I don’t know what he should do though.

If he comes back to play for us then we need to make assurances that the OL and Rushing game will be upgraded and follow through with it or it will just be more of the same.

But this year’s Draft Class at QB is weak overall and he would get drafted higher this year vs next year if everything else stayed the same.

The short cut is to go pro and just get the money and hope the NFL doesn’t eat you alive.

The smarter choice is to play another year in CFB and work on weaknesses and get better before making the jump.

This won’t be popular be he might be better off transferring to another school for his last year.

CKD and Grubb are making comments like the OL protection has been sufficient and being a bit critical of his play.

The blocking and protection is an abomination.

Do they not see it or just not throwing players under a bus other than Ty?

Again I don’t know what he should do but the current situation is unacceptable.

This has stood out to me. They are always saying things like ripping it and cut loose faster in his throws. Makes me wonder if this is the reason Ty took until this year to get his shot. Maybe he just doesn't trust what he sees and it has held him back.

I think Russell hits the door if he is not playing next year. I hope he proves me wrong.

It’s fair for them to comment on holding on too long and being better about protecting the ball.

But I’m not hearing sound bytes of them acknowledging that the protection has got to be better as well.

I haven’t heard them bring up that our WR’s are getting knocked off routes and timing is getting blown up.

They’re not talking about how gaining 3 YPC in the running game is unacceptable and being one dimensional is putting to much stress on the QB position.

Call everyone out and don’t just single out the guy who’s played a large role in getting us to a record of 8-2.

Call out the Mickey Mouse play calling, the non sensical play calling too.

Lesser QB play under the circumstances and we’d probably be 6-4 or 5-5 and trying to earn a bid to the Duke’s Taxslayer Pinstripe Weedwhacker Bowl instead of still being in the hunt.

I’m just having bad vibes about it all

This may be just silly, but do you think they may be giving reasons for making a QB change if something doesn't go well? I mean, it does sound like a conspiracy theory, but like @Bamabuzzard said earlier, we are playing East Popcorn St. University Saturday so we could discuss it.

This may be an exaggeration but based on watching Ole Miss vs Oklahoma and Ole Miss in general under Kiffen. I would tend to think that Kiffen could take Ty and Bernard and with his schemes have the best offense in college football. I tend to believe that Grubb hasn't adapted to the defensive schemes and talent in the SEC and is asking way too much for any QB to consistentely make 20 yard throws into coverage.

I think back to the Patriots dynasty with Brady and how much of their offensive production was to the tight end and slot receivers like Edleman across the middle of the field.

If he's projected 1st round... and i think he is right now...then he's gone.

If he stays to get a better grade for next year, Russell is gone.

If our OL is as bad or worse next year he risks injury again if he comes back.

He should have had at least a year of starting experience already, but thats a moot point now. Yes, he needs more starts before going pro, but this year's QB class isnt great at all.

I don't know what the answer is here, but the OL will get whomstever the QB is killed....if we don't fix major issues there. From better players to better coaching and technique...or even philosophy.

I think if we don't end the season well, he comes back. If we somehow can sneak past ATM and get an SECC, then he declares.

Side note....there's enough film on him now, teams know how to defend him better. Now is when he needs to adjust and grow as a QB.

Hence why if Ty has a bad game or a defense has him figured out, then we struggle. This offense is too dependent on excellent QB play. We will not score more than 21 to 24 points without defensive turnovers and short fields.

Hate this thread because you are right. But if he stays then we will lose KR. There is the possibility that Russel beats him out of the job in the Spring though. Frankly, we would be fine with either one but the big problem is the offensive line. Where is that thread?
