Bama v/s South Carolina in 2001. Tyler Watts played a monster game in a losing effort.

Look folks, nobody expected us to be in contention for anything this year. We are too young and THAT is a direct result of probation. YES we have numbers but those numbers are 65% freshmen. We will win some games. Just not this week.

I'm sorry but that's just bullcrap.

When you keep trying the same thing over and over again expecting different results - that's poor coaching/playcalling.

If Darby's not producing - bench him.
If Tiffen's misses have gotten into his head - bench him.
If passing is getting the job done, but you abandon it to run Darby up the middle....

That's a coaching loss - pure and simple.

Mister 11 posts strikes again.

You dance with who brung ya, and that was Tiffin. We may need a new dance partner, but today was not that day.

IF we would have slung it all over the field, JPW may have had multiple picks. The offense was balanced enough to keep the defense off guard, even if stats lean to passing. If we abandoned the run then they would have keyed on the pass and the numbers would have shown it.

I still say we will beat a team or two that we are not supposed to this season. It may happen next week.

I agree to an extent, but with a killer instinct by our offensive playcaller, we may not be sweating it out at the end and placing our hopes on a true freshman placekicker.

Fact is, we have the tools to be a great team this year - I was more worried about our D and we have done pretty well without the All American LBs. We needed this win - the silver lining in this is that we know we can score when we have to - we won't be favored in many games going forward so perhaps we can sneak up on a few. We need to develop a killer instinct on offense -

I agree that you can't abandon the run. But we abandoned the pass at the end of regulation and in the first OT. Just one play-action pass would have had a very good chance of resulting in a TD.

why do people keep making excuses for these guys...its not the players fault..that was a game we definitely should of won if not for idiotic playcalling and lack of discipline (stupid penalties)

I agree about the future, it is EXTREMELY bright. however, we should have won this game and could have with a tweak in philosophy. We may not win anything for the season but for this game we could have.

It's amazing how much the waning moments of this game mirrored the Arkansas game in 2003. We INT them in First OT, set up the kick in OT, and miss it. Arkansas then beats us in 2OT. Weird.

Trying a field goal when its 30 yards still takes some skill, but missing an extra point I just can't see it. (This doesn't include a blocked kick) Also on the extra point the kick wasn't even close, on two of the FGs there was a chance. Oh well. (deep sigh)

Cannot completely agree with you... except in extreme circumstances, there's never a 100% "coaching loss"... just like there's rarely a "coaching win." Both scenarios require players to go out and do their job. Yes, CMS used incorrect logic at the end of the game and in OT yesterday... playing for a FG after his PK had missed two chip shots. But remember, we would not have even been in that situation had LT converted at least one of them. BTW, if the HC job comes open anytime in the next few years, I'm sure that you will be putting your resume in... you seem to know more than our coaches in terms of who should be playing and when they should be pulled.

Correct. We don't need to stop trying to run the ball. It is the only way to keep the defense honest. I don't know if anyone noticed but JPW actually underthrew two or three passes yesterday. We were fortunate that Arkansas's defensive back are inexperienced, allowing us to get away with it. But, against the big boys in this league, we would end up with some picks. So, running the ball, even with limited success is a must.
Wish I knew what has happened to Darby. We all know he has the good stuff: it just hasn't happened yet. It appears that he is trying to do too much instead of just running through some gaps. We need him to get it together.

You are correct it is not their fault that they are young, you clll the play calling idiotic (won't go into it) stupid penalties, there's only so many wind sprints that can be run or corrections in practice you are also correct but it's self discipline also a consequence of youth. Like it or not this is a YOUNG team with a lot of potential.
