I really wish we could have pulled out another win for this group of seniors. However, we didn't play well enough to win. The defense was effective again, but the offense continues to slide backwards. I really hope we go with two tight ends against Auburn. I would like to see us keep running the ball and then pass fifteen to twenty times with max protection for the most part. I think that is the only way this line is going to be able to get anything done. They just don't have enough experience to handle some of the defensive lines in the SEC. Brodie is simply not himself because he seems worried about getting hit. Who can blame him. He took some bigtime shots yesterday. We have to use max protect or move him around. I couldn't understand why we kept calling pass plays that kept him in the pocket. LSU was blowing through the line in the second half and we kept having Brodie drop to the same spot to get drilled. That didn't make sense, but I'm not a football coach, so maybe there was another issue I wasn't aware of. Let's go to Auburn and get win number 10 for the seniors. Roll Tide.

Can anyone who knows more about x's and o's than I do, which is probably a lot of you guys, comment on the two tight ends opinion. I would think we could even put Leron McClain in the tight end spot on some downs to create a little versitility. We would have anywhere from 6 to 8 blockers, depending upon the play call, which would still allow for 2 to 4 receivers in patterns. I know having only 2 receivers is a very limited pass play, but if Brodie has the time, I think even those plays could be effective. We saw yesterday that any SEC QB can pick apart a defense if there is no pressure. There would be times when the tight end could release on one side and the running back pick up anyone coming off the end, and times when the back could slip out into a route. I guess I'm just desperately trying to figure out a way to slow down the pass rush against Auburn. I really can't stand the idea of losing to Ears and the Gang again. Roll Tide!

Why don't we run the ball more?!? KD was running all over them (just as he did msu) and we throw a pass on 3rd and 2 in the red zone?!?! RUN THE BALL!!! PLEASE, OH PLEASE RUN, THE BALL!!!!

I want to run the ball more. My original post mentioned only throwing the ball 15 or 20 times. I made an argument for the pass routes because I assumed many would say two tight ends would negate our passing attack. I want us to run it down Auburn's throat, which we did to LSU at times. I think Shula is so paranoid about being predictable, that he actually becomes predictable. I say, if something works, do it until they stop it. There have been several games this year when KD would rip off a couple of big runs, and we would then throw the ball just to be throwing it. This happened at MSU and Croyle threw an interception in the end zone. Believe me, I believe we need to run it, but not just up the gut.

I wish this was true, however we will not see anything different this Sat. against Auburn. I have been a fan of Shular since he was hired, however I have changed my mind since watching this team on Sat. How could we play such a game on Senior day. There was no emotion, nothing different, if you set in the stands and can calll the plays, what do think the LSU coaches were doing. No slants, no draw plays to off-set the aggrerssion of the LSU defense, just 3 yards and a cloud of dust. My opionion of Shular has changed, he will never be a great college coach, no risk talker. He doesn't believe in trying to win, he just calls plays to try to keep from getting beat. The Defense is great, but they were are the field way to much. Shular also needs to try to call plays to save the QB from getting beat to a pulp. I've gone on far enough, this year's team is as good as it's ever going to be as long as Shular is the Coach. Flame if you wish, delete if this makes you feel good. It is going to be a very long time if we get get back to 9 wins again with our present staff, if ever.

So let me get this straight. Your opionion of Shular is that he is no risk talker because he doesn't call plays to offset LSU's aggrerssion?? A slobbering moron of your caliber could only come from Tennessee. Wipe the drool of your face and calm down skippy.

Shular? What are you a barner?

Sorry, but I agree with Germantown here. Absolutely no imagination on offense. How bout a reverse or a HB pass from JJ. I sat there Sat and correctly guessed what most of the plays would be. And a sign of a good staff is when you can overcome obstacles. As of Sat we still cannot get over lossing Pro, not to mention JB. IMO, you nailed it...

I also agree there isno imagination in the offense. However, with a crippled o-line and playing against the best defense we have faced this year, you can't just run anything you want. To say Shula will never win 9 games again is a little rediculous. Look at Coach Stallings and Bryant, they never really had an "open offense". I am pretty sure we will be okay. Lets just beat Auburn and save the Shula bashing for another day.

Ok...

I normally don't get involved with these types of threads, but this sickens me.

We lose one game and all of the sudden our coach is starting to get bashed again.

Look, since the loss of Prothro the offense has been down. No mistake about it. In the past game we dropped so many passes I lost count. The loss of JB was, in my opinion, bigger. All of a sudden we have to bring in a backup who has not played all season in a big time game. In the second half, LSU adjusted and started bringing the house on an inexperienced line. Yeah, we all could probably call the play that was going to be run, but that's kind of easy to do when you are looking at 3rd and long. Look at Brodie's comments this past week about losing JB. He said that if you asked him what 2 people could you not lose this year he would have said TP and JB.

Bottom line is that we are a young team ON OFFENSE. Yeah. We have a senior quarterback and a junior at running back, but look everywhere else. This team has been playing over everyone's head this year and all of a sudden we lose a game and NOW people are questioning Shula. Same song, different year.

Bash me if you want too. Fact is I don't care. We have all been praising Shula for what he has done over the past 9 weeks, but now that we lost a game, people are coming out saying they have been a fan, but have changed their mind this weekend. If we would have won this weekend, would you have come out and said that?

Support the man along with the team.

No more to say except this:

Sorry, but anyone that has that poor a grasp of basic grammar and spelling has NOTHING to say that I would give any credence to.

Take a couple of English Comp classes down at the local Community College, Sparky.

Biggest change I want to see regards Ken Darby. This guy is a leader. He needs 30 carries!

Our passing "attack" (and I use the term loosely) is embarassing. The odds of a dropped ball or sack are high.

I say we ditch the lame portion of our offense, roll up our sleeves, and pound the ball at Auburn with KD. Darby won't let us down.

I didnt hear anyone complaining about lack of imagination after the Florida game..

A completely different game and shouldn't even be compared. This LSU defense was a much tougher defense and the margin for error in the playcalling department was much less than in the Florida game.

When our players started dropping all those balls and LSU was drilling Brodie on every pass attempt that is when true "coaching" comes into play. Why continue to call plays that aren't working? Why not go back to what was working in the first half, rather than continue banging our heads against the wall?

We didn't run into any adversity in the Florida game, but we did in the LSU game and I think the playcalling reaction from Shula in the critical point of the game is what bothers a lot of fans......and how can you not question the logic behind the play selection?

I have questioned the play calling like everyone else in the second half.. I was really suprised he went away from the run, but lack of imagination? The game could have been much worse if a trick play would have backfired..

While I do not like to get on any player in particular many threads have questioned the playcalling. I coach special teams in high school and there are many times I do not agree with our offensive or defensive coordinators. Let's talk of the Seniors. Did you notice on the drive to open the 3rd quarter that Freddie Roach (senior) missed a tackle in the flats on a swing pass for a big gainer down the sideline. Then Madison (senior) has a pass interference call to give LSU a first down (Even though the call was bogus). Then on 4th and 1, LSU runs off left tackle and Freddie Roach (senior) leaps into the air and completely goes over the top of the running back instead of keeping his feet and sticking him in the hole. Not to mention, that Brodie (senior) is consistently missing the deep ball.

I said all that to say this. there is enough blame to go around for everyone when things don't go our way. It does no good to blame anyone. Everyone on the sideline and in the Bama Nation took the loss Saturday. Surely we don't think they tried to lose (coaches or players). I am not happy w/ the loss, with any loss, but considering:

3 coaches in six months to

4-9 to

6-6 to

9-1 with a chance to be 10-1 or 11-1, I'll take it!!!!!

Even if we end up 9-3, I won't like it but I'll take that too!!!!

Folks I may be wrong but I think the play calling was in part dictated by the LSU defense. We ran on them in the first half and they adjusted at half to stuff the run and make Brodie and our recievers have to beat them. That was the smart thing for them to do considering our offensive line woe's and our reciever's droppsies. We still could have won at the end, but unfortunately somebody had to lose. It was just our turn. This week it's Auburns turn!

I don't believe I started this thread by bashing anyone, but it seems to have turned down a different path. I simply asked for some x's and o's opinions of running more two tight end sets. While I don't think of Shula as an offensive genious, I am aware that the line play, dropped passes, and out-of-sync QB do dictate a limited number of plays. That is why I would like to simplify with two tight ends and hammer away at Auburn. We would have to pass 15-20 times to try to hit some big gainers because this would keep their defense honest. Unlike many, I don't believe we need to run 10 trick plays. If we can't run the basic plays, I would imagine we would have great difficulty running any trick plays. Anyway, I would still like to hear some x's and o's opinions if they exist. Roll Tide.

Alabama does deserve better!!!

Everyone is right...Alabama does deserve better. Alabama deserves more appreciative fans who take a 9-1 season with grace and excitement. Alabama deserves fans who stand behind their coach and team by realizing LSU was just a better ball club. Alabama deserves people recognizing that we are fortunate to have a 9-1 season; I remember a time just a few years ago when we were 3-8, when we were on probation, when we went through 3 coaches in less than a year. Alabama deserves congratulations, knowing that this team and coaching staff have exceeded every expectation that most, if not all fans, had for the year.

Does Alabama deserve better? Yea, I think so. It doesn't deserve second-guessing and questioning.

Roll Tide!!!
