I'm going through the old football threads I managed to backdoor a weird way into (through an accidental search), and I've come across some GOOD reading material that you won't find on a normal search.

PLEASE - DO NOT bump the threads in this thread; it gets confusing when a post from 2009 flutters to the top. People start replying, and it goes all haywire. So PLEASE just ENJOY these for what they are and have a good chuckle in some cases......

LOL, every time you post one of these necro-threads I hold my breath, as I tend to mentally-vomit-post. I never know what I'm going to read myself saying whilst shaking my head in disbelief...

Who was the dumb head who posted this absurdity???...."On a positive note, I think if CNS stays at Bama that we'll win more national titles in the next ten years(starting now) than any other school in the country. I don't think that's a reach at all."

To be honest, when I've looked back at my first posts it has been embarrassing. I'm not sure if I was still learning my way around a message board but they aren't pretty. Some were fairly unkind to our players, particularly a few offensive lineman in the Shula era. I know better now...it's not what you say but how you say it, as an original Tidefan once put it.

Even when that thread was posted I would have argued that USC was the top program in the country, not Florida. USC was absolutely stacked with NFL talent. By the end of the 2009 season, the college football landscape would be changed in a huge way. Alabama was back on top, Meyer left Florida, Carroll left USC and Texas would never recover from the loss to Alabama in the BCSCG. Also, Tressel was laying the groundwork for the rise of OSU with his decision to cover for his players in the NCAA investigation.

2009 - the season that totally changed the landscape of college football.

Yep. It was like 1968 in the USA. We just don't actually realize it until later.

The old threads mostly make me notice all the banned/suspended users and wonder how I ever made it through my more immature years without landing one. There's no telling how much more work I would get done daily.*

This was an interesting read and really took me back in time to 2008/2009. I HATED the Gators back then and part of that was they were so successful and often at our expense.

You have to remember they took a bunch of potential SEC Titles from us in the 90's with Spurrier besting CGS in 3 straight matchups in '93, '94(BRUTAL loss), and '96. We paid them back in '99 but they still had a 3-2 SECCG edge.

So to lose in such heartbreaking fashion again in '08...to THEM...it was tough. It looked like Meyer was the 2nd coming of Spurrier and the thoughts crept in like 'geez these guys are NEVER going to NOT be a thorn in our sides.'

As just a fan I remember being angry and jealous of their success. The media lovefest of Meyer and Tebow was at a fever pitch. Thankfully, the 2009 Alabama team was on a MISSION of payback. They didn't just want to get back to the SECCG and then win a NC.....they WANTED Florida....they wanted to GO THROUGH the Gators. That 2009 SECCG is still one of my favorites.

On that day CNS took CUM to school. We wrecked them and images still play in my mind of Urban's headset sideways on his head with a dumbfounded look on his face, of Tebow kneeled down crying inconsolable tears, of Mark and Julio on the sideline doing the 'Gator Chomp Tie-Wrap'.

The 2009 Alabama team will always have a special place in history for me. Not only did they really start our current Dynasty but they did it by ending Florida's.

Who would have thought that since 2008 we would have gone 5-0 in SECCG's (4-0 vs Fla) and 4-1 in NCG's? It's been a wild ride that hopefully continues for a little longer.

To me there is only one thing left for CNS to do (and I'm sure it's secretly on his bucket list).....Play Meyer One more time Head-to-Head for it all.....Alabama vs Ohio State for the NC. Who's the best once and for all?

Bud Light Presents.....REAL Men of Genius.......today we salute you.....

I don't see us as having any chance of landing Saban, Spurrier, or Stoops.
Jesus christ, it's time to let Spurrier and Saban go. . .

WELL SAID!!!

2007: Bama takes another punch in the gut after yet another coaching change and has to start all over again with new staff and recruiting...UGGGGH!!!

Anyone know that, in his first 10 years at USC(1990-2000), Pete Carroll had 5-6 seasons in which he won 6 or less games? They kept him on, he built his program....and look at him now. Now--I AM NOT SAYING THAT SHULA WAS THE NEXT BEAR BRYANT!!!!! But, what if USC had shown the impatience that Bama boosters and fans are showing right now? What this university and program needed was continued stability for at least another year--an opportunity for Shula and his staff(with the changes he allegedly planned to make) to have ONE YEAR in which they were free of the encumbrance of NCAA sanctions??? He basically came in, took the punishment, weathered the storm, and then got tossed out like yesterday's trash. National commentators are right--who'd really want the job....And please, please don't say spurrier!!!!!

What will it take for Mal to retire???? As long as he is the face of the program(and the person prospective coaches have to negotiate with and put their belief in), I fear Alabama is going to continue to be viewed as a program that is no longer relevant,
where the fans & boosters continue to live under the dream that we're still the same Bama we were 25 years ago.
(For those who don't know......Carroll wasn't the coach during the time she states he was.....)

Proven head coach. Success at Nebraska, 10-2 at Ohio this year...

Coached in a premier conference with victories over rivals...

Hell, he even has a former player with a Heisman trophy.

Hmmmmm????

I don't like Notre Dame anymore than the next guy but I have to admit they hired themselves a great coach in Charlie Weiss. And yes they are much better off with him at the helm. And we don't deserve a thing like this. We have been through some tough times with probation and some bad coaches, but that is why we are taking our time in picking a coach. This coaching search is extremely important to the next 10 years or more for our program. We have everything in place except for a great head football coach and we are looking to make a statement with this hire much like what Notre Dame did with Charlie Weiss. I don't know who will be the man, but I expect him to be a great coach who will be the right fit for us. This is going to be the shot heard around the football world and ESPN will eat their words.

I hope that it is not Saban! He has been very rude to the University in the media and he is a "Man-Breastless" Fran to me. No Coach is bigger than the University and Saban would think that he is and Fran thought the same way.
Maybe PJ would make a good head coach for Bama, but he is not a big name, proven D-1 winner (Mals Specs for a replace). I am not saying that he is bad, but he does not fill the bill according to Mal.:BigA:

And remember that time LSU went to the Rose Bowl in 2006??????

looks like we are heading to the rose bowl
Great match up with Michigan
Who you guys think has the edge?

Saw quite a few members who no longer post on here for whatever reason. Would be nice to find out what happened to them and even if they are still among the living. That would be a good project for you, Bill. :cool2:
