Question: Tide 3rd string QB?

Blake Sims practicing at running back more.
Phillip Ely getting more reps at QB.
Does anyone have more info concerning the reason for this change so late into the Fall camp?
Ely was very impressive in his video where he nocked the ball of a teammate's head from across the gym! Some even compared him to GMac in his style and background. could he be Bama's third string QB? Allowing Sims to concentrate on running the ball? I know this is all under lock and key at UA, but it never hurts to ask.

I can't help but think we are in good hands with any of these QB's. All seem to be intelligent, tallented, and capable.
looking foreward to this season and hearing of the tallent lvl of UA players has my football habit peeked. "Hey is that Bear Bryant? No thats Nick Saban".
 
Been hearing that blake works with the rbs during the media viewing period and is assumed to go back and work with the quarterbacks when the media is ushered out. Kinda got that feel of when we switched to the wishbone before usc game. Something is brewing with the wildcat formation and i think saban wants to keep it on the down low. I still believe blake sims will be third when the depth chart comes out.

Coach said "because of Ely's progress"........ My interpretation is Ely @#3 QB and Blake competes for #3 RB.
HOWEVER.......... I believe Blake has a QB package in the rotation.
 
Yeah, I don't think the insinuation was that Ely had PUSHED Blake to RB, but that Ely is playing well enough that Sims can move to RB and we don't have to worry about there being an incapable 3rd string QB. I think subpar players at Bama are becoming extinct. There was once a time when, if the starter RB or QB or LB or DL got hurt, Bama fans panicked. Not anymore. We just plug another one in. Lovin it!!! Roll Tide!!!
 
Blake Sims is a great athlete and Saban and his coaches will get him on the field. He will get more playing time as a running back and as wild cat QB than he will ever get at QB. It makes sense and will allow Ely to get more reps as a third team QB. I am really excited to see Blake play and his role on the team.

Depth chart? What depth chart? You mean our organizational groupings?

Great... you've let out the secret! ;) I don't think it's much of a secret considering his play in the spring game. Blake S. showed a strong arm and immensely quick feet so it's no stretch to think he'd get a few snaps as 'wildcat' or some other specific plays against certain opponents just to see how things go.

Blasphemer!!! I don't think you've thought this through well enough Mack... I hope to see our 3rd string QB every game by at least the 1st possession of the 4th qtr... I'm sure you get what I mean ;)!!! I especially hope our 3rd stringer is very proficient in running the 'victory' formation!

Seriously I took Coach Saban's comments as almost a slip, and then he starts trying to explain it. Either place BS is used he's going to be a spark plug and I think it'll all depend on how the year/needs unfold as to where he's used. I certainly like the prospects of him running some QB with run/pass options. Would love to see a ton of it run against lesser opponents the week before big games just to make the opposition practice against it... then again maybe it proves a very prosperous package against any opponent.
