I know its not the news we want to hear, but I am excited for the back ups to get going. this is a golden opportunity for them to show what they are made of!
This is what I was just thinking reading the thread. Depth building. Someone who wasn’t a starter just got their number of reps increased significantly. While I want us to be 100% this may pay us in spades late in the year.

I agree that we’ve got some guys but ’m drawing a blank on Payne. I know we had one that portaled out.
James Smith... Argh! Returning starter who may well be in the NFL next year. He was dinged up, but sounds like he is good to go. He will need someone to take some snaps to get a breather, but we have top notch talent for one slot.

And agree, Wommack believes in playing anyone who is ready to get them more ready. I think we have a number of hungry young guys in those listed above who just need opportunity and development and are ready to help now.

With Keenan out, I see Overton down in there with Smith showing out. All those guys mentioned have a great opportunity to establish a dominating standard for the season.

Payne is back and ready.

Reynaud, Hill, Beaman, and Collins all had good camps.

Overton can also slide inside.

We've got bodies and they have played a bit... Not ideal, but we will need these guys down the road and this is valuable prep time for them. We need 5-6 guys for a 16 game season!
Payne is a Wolverine now along with Justice Haynes. They both were with them when we played them in the bowl game.

Smith is already starting at one of the DT spots, so someone else will have to step in for Keenan.

Reynaud at 265 is no where near big enough to play inside yet and even though Hill is certainly more DT than DE, he's not really at the ideal weight either. It would be a big stretch to have Collins or Overton slide in as well since they're sub 275 and are DE's not DTs. They could probably take some reps on passing downs, but if they are in on situations that could be either run or pass, if I was the opposing OC, I and saw any of those guys in as a DT, I'd formation us to ensure the WOLF was next to them, making that a really small side of the line and a and then I'd run right at them and go HUNH to prevent subs and do that until you stopped me or I scored. A 275# DT a 250-260# OLB wouldn't be much of a match for 2 310+ OL...

Beaman doesn't have a lot of reps, but got some time in the bowl game and looked good then and has good size. Behind him, there's potential, but no experience. Faga and Mboumoua are the other 3 down DT style guys we have, and I don't think either has any meaningful game time, then TF Simmons. We just don't have much experienced depth at the big boy spots.

It would appear the plan is Beaman starting there and then subbing the various options. Agree that several of the guys are too light to man the spot full time.

We need to play Beaman and our other 3s and see who is ready - we are going to need them down the the road.

People bringing up Tua aren’t taking this man’s weight and position into account. No one on the field shoves and drives off their lower legs like DTs. He won’t be “100%” as they say the rest of the year and shouldn’t even try it through the bulk of the regular season. For Tim’s sake, he might need to consider a med redshirt. This is a huge loss.

And past Beaman, we don’t have anyone else on the roster of this size and build for nose anywhere near game ready, so the “next man up” stuff should be the left to those who don’t have a clue on social media.
