Today's Game

Coach Wells did it again, he waits until the damage is done before he changes pitchers,

he does it every single game, :(

even the ESPN announcers don't understand why Tommy was still pitching,

I mentioned this yesterday, Coach Wells will not change pitchers until runs are scored,

o well, ;)

we can still win

I hope so, he is a good coach, but IMO he should go elsewhere. He made alot of coaching mistakes tonight,

actually the only thing I don't like about Wells is that he flat out refuses to take out a pitcher until damage has been done,

and why would you pitch a fastball straight into the strike zone, to a guy who had hit a homer already,

I wouldn't be suprised if alot of people start asking Coach Wells to leave, and he could possibly be thinking that himself,

There are alot of broken hearts and unhappy people in Tuscaloosa tonight,

I really didn't expect us to win the series, but I was hoping we could save face and win one game -- especially at our home field.

I just can't believe it, I wish they would explain that strategy, pitching a fastball right into the strikezone to a power hitter, with two outs.....

I just don't understand,

The better team did when today, they (UNC) should be in the national title game, they are a very good team.

I have thought for a long time that Wells Should go, and tonight solidified that for me,

It's not negative, b/c coaching changes happen all the time, and Wells made some VERY poor coaching decisions, at the worst possible times,

alot of people are going to be asking him to leave, we were embarrassed on national tv twice, and it isn't that often that Alabama baseball is broadcast on national television.

Coach Wells is a great coach, but we have to remember that in the national eye right now, Alabama is a joke, and Coach Wells could win 70 games in a row, but the one that counts the most is the one that is on national television.

shame on Wells, terrible coaching

However, congrats to our guys on an amazing season, and I wish them the best of luck in whatever they choose to do ( the seniors) wether they continue and get drafted or they go on with their lives, I wish them the best b/c they played their hearts out against an amazing UNC team.

I just wish they could have had better coaching tonight,

Not a regular contributor on this part of the board... but gotta vent blow off a little steam somewhere. IMO, Bama played well enough to win tonight... losing because of two very poor coaching decisions. Eighth inning with two on with none out... bring in your automatic (most nights) closer. Ninth inning with one runner on and first base open... forget the conventional wisdom and pitch to a guy who did NOT just crush a fastball out of the lot in his last at bat... oh yes, and who happens to be their best clutch hitter. IMO, Bama came to play, but Jim Wells did not come to coach tonight (distracted a bit maybe?).

I have never liked Wells, he hides in the back of the dugout on purpose (occassionally on CSS, the announcers with mention that) and again, he does not take out a pitcher until runs are scored.

He is a good coach, but I think Alabama can do better!

and yes, he was probably preoccupied with something else, :cool2:

The coach we need at Alabama wouldn't be distracted with that garbage, this brings horrible "Franchione Inccident" thoughts to my head again.

I have thought for the longest time that Wells needs to go, get some fresh blood in that dugout, this super regional AT OUR HOME FIELD has put the exclamation point.

My thoughts (for those that care)

Facts are facts guys, we had only 6 hits on the night and the bases loaded 3 times and scored 1 run I believe. That AIN'T Coach Wells' fault. Fact of the matter is we were not hitting very well in the SECT and the regional (except against weak or depleted pitching staffs). The slump continued into the super regional. Emeel is our table setter, if he don't set it, we usually struggle, which we have the last few games. His average dropped 15-20 from the SECT to the super regional. Bad time to go into a slump and have to face a guy like Andrew Miller. Emeel is a great player and I hope he stays, would have liked to see the slump happen 6 weeks ago though. He is not to blame, the blame falls on no one's shoulders in the Bama dugout. UNC made great defensive plays today and had timley hits, congrats to them and good luck in Omaha.

This is baseball and UNC is a VERY GOOD BASEBALL TEAM. Would not be surprised to see them in the Championhip game or win it for that fact. Not to mention they had only 1 senior on thier team (in thier bullpen). With that being said, Bama could be right back in it next season. Hopefully so. We were a semi young team with freshman contributors. Hopefully that will payoff next year and the years to come.

Being from South Georgia and close to Tallahassee and FSU (yuch!!) people always say Coach Mike Martin is a choker in the big game and many of you are basically saying the same thing about coach Wells, well (no pun intended), in order to be in the big game you have got to have made a lot of great calls to get there. Lets don't forget those that are made. For you so called Alabama baseball fans, you DO NOT want to see Coach Wells go to LSU, they have always been strong and are that perverbial sleeping giant, we do not need to send our coach down there to wake that giant up again.

This TEAM demonstrated what team ball is all about and I for one got to see my first game in Tuscaloosa watching them play Florida this year and it was special. This TEAM represented the University extremely well and the SEC well. They respected the game and played it the way it should be played, we (they) fell short of our (their) goals, but had a wonderful season and for all of you that see the players now that it is the offseason, slap 'em on the back and let them know that we are proud of them and that they had a great season.

For any players that may read this, thanks for a great year. For those that will be back next year, work hard and take it to another level next year, for those that are drafted and leaving, congratulations and Thanks for all you did and good luck in the future, for those that graduated and won't be back, Thanks for a great season and good luck in the future.

This was a fine season and I for one am proud of each and every one of the players, again Thanks guys.

When is the first pitch next year? :cool2:

I agree, congrats guys, you guys are AWESOME in my book!

However, IMO, Wells had alot to do with our loss, he said so himself,

Paraphrased, He said starting the 8th inning, he "mismanaged" the team.

This wasn't the players faults, they played their HEARTS out, Wells could have done a better coaching job, he said so himself.

RTR,

I was talking to some of my friends tonight while we were watching the game and it came up that bama looked like a lot of decent college 7, 8 and 9 hitters. In an Aluminum bat game you have to be able to score more runs and hit the ball out of the park with more frequency than the team did. Our pitching was really good but the college game is won on offense. UNC is a hard team to beat in a three game series because they can run two guys out who give them a good chance of winning but they're not a national championship caliber team and will probably be elminate in the 2nd or 3rd day. Saying all that I have great respect for this team bc they were scrappy all season and hope our young guys can develop into 2, 3 and 4 hole hitters over the off season. As for Wells it baffles me why you would try to bunt with your 4 hitter in either of those situations.

What good coach is going to say, well it was Hunter's Fault had had been handcuffing them allnight he should have gotten the pitch down in the zone? Of course he is going to take the heat, cause that is the kind of class guy he is. He has always been one and will always represent Bama in a class way.

I will admit I wish he had started Robertson in the 8th. But, ultimately we were in the position we wanted to be in even with the "mismanagement" of the 8th inning. The lead, with Robertson on the mound in the 9th inning. Flock (sp) hit a good pitch from a quality pitcher out of the ballpark. Congrats to him

Bottom line. End of great season.

Good luck to UNC and the rest of the SEC teams.

Yea, congrats to UNC, and good luck in Omaha!!

I'm just glad this isn't football or basketball, b/c the loss would be harder to stomach,

The truth is, I like all of Alabama's athletics programs!

In terms of fan support and university importance, our sports programs rank this way....

#1 Football (Overflowing attendance, large amounts of funding)
#2 Basketball (Moderate program, great attendance, adequate funding)
#3 Gymnastics (large funding, and large attendance)
#4 Baseball (moderate attendance, lack of finances)
#5
Softball (adequate funding, lack of attendance)

I am not worried about tonight, the rest of the country understands that we aren't supposed to be that great in baseball, and when it comes down to the wire, if we fail to rise to the occasion, the rest of the country doesn't hold that against our school.

However, as we move up the above list, the consequences for not preforming become stiffer, to the eyes of our nation (in terms of recruitment)

Although, I have no doubt, tonight's preformance will effect Alabama's baseball recruitment efforts in a negative way. Then again, what team has ever lost, and have that loss increase recruitment?? :biggrin2:

What a tough loss man....

Oh well, good luck to UNC. They really deserved it. This bunch can just flat out hit. You make one mistake and they are all over you. If they can get the kid that started today to stay out of trouble they could make some noise in Omaha. Will be rooting for them.

And on the subject of Hunter, I believe once he hit that batter in the 8th we should have went to Robertson. Then with 2 on I thought for sure Wells would go to Robertson. Nothing we can do now. Let'***** the trail and get some new blood in for next year and build. The future looks good!

rk, you amaze me. Look at Bama's numbers in the SEC versus all the other schools (winning championships, etc). The SEC has always been one of the premier conferences in all sports. For us to be that good in it, the rest of the country knows about us too.

does CJW make some curious moves? Yes. Is he gone? I can't imagine so, unless LSU makes a hard push for him. I can't see him being let go based on the UNC series. He's been too good at BAMA for them to do that.

As a baseball coach I can say MAYBE the only bad move he made was not walking that last batter in the 9th. He had an open base and that guy had absolutely tatoed the ball last night. However, CJW did the best he could and we had an opportunity to win. Hunter had looked awesome the whole game and I would have left him in too. Robertson had also looked impressive, so I don't question any of his moves except for not walking the last batter. I say good job and we'll see ya next year.

Also, if anything this should raise the recruiting at UA for baseball. I thought the crowds were great(I was there), and we got national exposure on TV. As you guys are well aware of, Alabama does not get a lot on TV. So, I think this helps us and being #4 nationally ranked going into the tourney can only help. Here's to hopin CJW stays!

RTR!!
