Today's Question: Do you support same-sex marriage?

For me it's as simple as marriage is between a man and a woman. If civil unions would give gays every right as marriage I would say great. Let it happen. I just don't support gay marriage.

Next I'll say I'm a little disappointed because I thought for sure you would be responding to the below quote.
Why do you say that? Did he fit a certain stereotype?

I know an old guy like that may thought might be gay. But, he has been married to one woman for over 65 years, had 2 kids (sadly buried both) and when a couple of his lifelong friends and neighbors came out and asked him about possibly being attracted to other men, he flat out let it be known that the thought to him was disgusting. He didn't even talk to those guys for a few months. I knew a nephew of his and he would come across as gay but he has been married for close to 15 years and has a kid.
I also know a lady that has been with a couple of different women and has said that it is a thing of the past and just didn't like doing that anymore. This girl is hot and any man or woman that saw her would want to meet her. I asked her, "you just don't want to do that anymore? Turn it off like a light switch?" and her response is, "Just not in to it anymore."

Is there pics of these events? Better?:)

The world has also always been full of mental and physical imperfections, yet we still manage to have them. What about murderers and wars (we still have an abundance of them as well). Are they nature's way of curing overpopulation. Try again.

By the way, this thread provides an interesting study in mob mentality.

Oh I am not ganging up on anyone. Was just asking. So you say being gay is a mental imperfection? Again not ganging up on you, but have lots of gay friends and they more normal than me.:)

Why do I say it? Because he's gay. Yes he fit many of the stereotypes though not all of them.

and yes I know there are people that can turn it on and off. For some sexuality isn't an a versus b thing. For me I have only ever been attracted to Women for others its Men, for a few it's both. This is actually perfectly normal behavior in Mammals and has been recorded in countless species.

No one really, but was just asking if you did. Maybe I worded it wrong. Sorry.

My point was to say that a person should hate the sin and not the sinner. If you think homosexuality is a sin of course. I always hated that I always seemed to miss the Sunday sermon on adultery so that I could sit next to a couple of deacons and say, "the pastor is not talking to you, he is talking to your behavior." Never heard that sermon though. Homosexuality has always been around and always will and if a person is in a relationship with a person of the same gender, they should be allowed within our laws to name that person as a beneficiary, a next of kin, put on employment benefits, etc.... if they presently cannot do that. I personally feel that marriage is between one man and one woman. If that man and woman would rather be in a civil union, then fine. I think the federal govt could require states to offer civil unions for the economic reasons I listed above but allow states to define marriage. From a political point of view, I hear people say that gay marriage is a 50-50 deal in this country in polls but every time it comes up for vote in states, gay marriage is defeated 60-40 or 70-30.

And, as far as pics go. No, I do not have any but I did meet one of the other women one time and I kept making faces at the woman I knew saying, please give me this one wish! Never happened. :(

Chuckle, chuckle...you wear your conflation well. :)

Nevertheless, that is not the argument I am making. I have been fairly consistent in my posting on this matter across several threads. I simply ask myself, "What makes sense?" I see a human world that cannot sustain itself without procreation, and the simple fact is that same sex couples cannot naturally procreate. Therefore, same-sex unions do not make biological sense to me. Is this a cold-hearted perspective on my part? Yep, it probably is, but I'm okay with looking at things objectively and unemotionally.

Logically you must be in favor of derecognizing the legal status of marriages in which one partner is infertile. They cannot naturally procreate, and therefore do not make biological sense to you.

i think a lot of the margin of defeat goes to the intensity of opinion of the folks who oppose gay marriage and the way that translates into them getting out the vote.

You can blow it off as people just love trash -- but it's way deeper than that. The boundaries have to keep getting tested -- it's an attempt to out outrageous the one before.....they aren't putting things on the air because it's quality -- it's just an attempt to gain a short term advantage in raunchy -- so they can make their one year splash and then move on.

Remember when we thought Beavis and Butthead was bad? Wow -- who'd have thunk it would have sunk so much lower.....

The boundaries keep getting tested because that's what the people watching want. In many ways, the studios you think are trying to corrupt your teenage daughters are, in fact, the ones keeping television from becoming even less "wholesome" than it already is.

But let's assume for a moment that you're correct -- that the folks in Hollywood are intentionally sabotaging wholesome entertainment in favor of moral-corrupting crap, economics be damned. If this is true, it should be relatively easy to name a television show that was morally pure, got great ratings, and was cancelled regardless.

What show is that?

By the way, this is actually a pretty good description of what happens when capitalism meets entertainment. Why shoot for quality when Nation Lampoon's Fart Party 6 will make you rich.

I'm sure over time I could come up with a list ---

Heroes -- when NBC started moving it around -- had 11 million viewers -- one of their highest rated shows -- after they fooled around with it (and the unlikely timing of the writer's strike) still had 8-9 million

but - the issue is less about what Wholesome series got cancelled -- it's more about the fact that there are very very few to begin with.....

And don't misread me -- I'm not talking about a lack of Little House on the Prairie type programming -- I enjoy a funny episode of BBTheory - and I really enjoy Harry's Law (which also just got cancelled despite 9 million viewers) --

But I just find it hard to believe that movies like Avatar, The Avengers, Titanic, and other family oriented movies just blow out the bucks at the Movies -- in fact PG rated Movies far outpace R rated flicks.....

I think TV is a different animal that is seen as a mode of corrupting the youth -- and yes, i do think it's intentional -- not sure you can sway me from that.

As much as I am morally against it, yes. Everyone has the right to free speech and this is no different. I may not like what someone says, but they have the right to say it.

The more important question to me is, why has our society accepted deviant behavior as normal?
