Trev Alberts has picked his top 5 sleeper teams and overrated teams of 2005. I like the man's picks.

Overrated:

1) Miami
2) Tennessee
3) Georgia
4) Oklahoma
5) Notre Dame

Sleepers

1) Texas A&M
2) Penn State
3) Alabama
4) Perdue
5) Florida State

Agree or disagree? Personally I am shocked at Notre Dame. I thought with last year's results and a first year coach they would not even appear on the radar. Is FSU a "sleeper?" They should compete with Miami and Va Tech for the ACC title.

What are some of your picks?

I disagree with UGA...I think they are a team very comparable to Tennessee's 1998 team...They are replacing a record setting QB with one who has set behind him for enough time to learn the game...Their D is tough, and the have enough running backs to carry the load and take the pressure of Shockley

Notre Dame...I havent seen them rated that high in many polls, so I'm not sure how they can be overrated...

Tennessee has a good chance of being overrated because of thier schedule..I don't see us coming out of LSU and UF undefeated...Couple that with road trips to Notre Dame and Alabama and home games against quality teams such as UGA, UAB, a Steve Spurrier coached USC, and Memphis, it's a rough row to hoe...getting out of the East this year will be a tough feat

Oklahoma and Miami...Hard to rate both of these teams bc they have so much talent...Question is...are Stoops and Coker as good as billed? We'll see

I'll preface this with I CAN'T STAND TENNESSEE. But I don't think they deserve to be in the overrated category just yet. They have a sophomore qb coming back that at times looked like a seasoned vet as a freshman starter. He'll be twice as comfortable and have twice the understanding of the offense this year. All they need is a decent running game to compliment what I believe will be a pretty good passing game (with Ainge) and you've got a contender for the SEC Title. Not saying they'll win it but will be in the hunt.

Georgia doesn't need to make the list quite yet either. They've got a good enough running game and talented enough defense to make up for any imperfections in the passing game. Mix in Shockley's scrambling ability and I don't see many holes in this team.

Texas A&M shouldn't be on the list because the way Fran left Bama has put a curse on any team he coaches from this point on. They're a "Sleeper" that will stay a "sleep". I don't have to know what kind of talent they have or what they have coming up. Life has a way of paying back people who do other people wrong. Strap'em on Fran the lashes are on their way.

I do not see how Southern Cal can be seen as overrated. They are the number one team in the country in the polls so if that is your basis I have no argument but they haven't really lost anything from a team that was a clear-cut #1 last year. They have a Heisman-winning QB in Matt Leinart, a Heisman-caliber Utility guy in Reggie Bush and a defense that will be just as good as they were last year despite losing of couple of key players because that play in a conference that Hoover High School could win.

Please elaborate on why you picked them as your No. 1 overrated team.

Also, no one has UAB rated anywhere so by definition they can not be overrated

Dear Bamabuzzard:

I do not want to unnecessarily stir anything up here but I think you may want to back up a little on these comments. First, Ga. has been tough to deal with ever since Richt got there and he always bring a highly competitive group to the table. However, they are missing some key players that could make or break them on both sides of the ball. They have also lost 1/3 of their recruiting class recently so may be short on backups to fill in. In addition, to say they have a pretty stout defense and a good running game to compensate for any shortcomings in their passing game ignores another team that had that same problem last year - US!

As for Texas A&M - I, too, am frustrated at HOW he left. However, I do not hold that against his ability to do a fantabulous job coaching his new team and do not ever underestimate that man's abilities despite whatever "curse' you think attends him. He is and was a master strategician and I can clearly see his team creeping up and surprising a lot of people.

Keep in mind that those were not my picks, but Trev Alberts picks. The problem Ainge had last year was consistency. He looked very good at times, but looked less than impressive to awful at times too. This year he should be more consistent. Tennessee does have a legitimate shot at the SEC title, and should be one of the favorites. I don't disagree with that.

They could be considered overrated because they are number 2 and 3 in some preseason polls I have seen. I don't think they will end up 2 or 3 at season's end because a brutal road schedule could be their downfall.

Florida, LSU, Alabama and Notre Dame on the road. If they win the west, they will have to play LSU or Alabama twice, or Auburn again who seems to have their number and could have a solid team by season's end in the SECCG. If they win all these games they should roll the red carpet out for the Vols at the Rose Bowl because they will deserve it.

They still have their #1 QB and no real injuries. A lot different then us.

UT sucks :)

I agree with everyone on this board in the fact that UT as a preseason #3 are extremely overrated. I believe it will be there defense that will come back to haunt them. It's not there run defense that is bad, in fact I like their front 7 for stopping the run. In fact I like there defense for stopping the run, which will win them most games in the SEC. But their pass defense was awful last year and I really don't see how it will be better. By moving a safety to corner most of the time you are giving up some coverage skills. Allen isn't that good at coverage anyway, he's mainly hyped up on the number of tackles he had last season (how good is it that your safety is your leading tackler?). I just believe that being number 3 in the country is a bit high, so overrated is a good way to describe them. In all fairness I think they are going to win 9 games, but when they come up on a balanced team, say UF, UA, UGA, they will have trouble on the defensive side. Oh, keep in mind that this perspective was done under crimson lighting. :)

usc is over taed because they play in the weak pac 10. they are beatable. and they will lose at least one game this year. i am soooooooo sick of hearing how great they are. cal should have beaten them last year., and this year they will lose to either cal, arizona state, or oregon.

i have seen alot of the experts predicting uab to win c-usa.

UAB's upset LSU in the past... it's not completely absurd to think they might upset the Vols this year.

It seems strange to me to pick which teams are overrated when there are no rankings yet and nobody has played a game. But I do think Alabama may do much better than expected. UT has a brutal road schedule, and I can't see them staying in the top 5 for long, if that's where they start out. Georgia will have a great offensive line and running game, but unless Shockley can learn to perform like a senior, they may be one-dimensional. Their defensive backs are short and will have trouble with tall receivers. Otherwise their defense will be pretty good. But they're not a top 10 team.

I can't speak about the non-conference teams, except to say that Notre Dame is always overrated.
