Transfer Portal 2023-2024...

let's be honest, Bama fans only like Sark because he was a really good OC during his time at the Capstone. before that, he was pretty unsuccessful everywhere else. with his average results as a HC and drinking issues, he was NOT in demand and his name was not attached to anything of significance. it was coach Saban who resurrected his waning career and made him a hot commodity. so far, his short stint in Texas, he was able to take their program to the Playoffs for the first time. But they're not paying top money just to make the Playoffs. until he wins a championship for the Longhorns, his seat will always be warm no matter what they in public. and now that they have join the SEC, wining has become more challenging.
I like Sark because he got a second chance at not just coaching but life. If he wouldn’t have come to Bama, he would have prolly died but the Saban coaches physicals found his heart issues and literally saved his life. Stories like that give me hope and are an inspiration to me. It has nothing to do with him being a Bama OC. If you have not heard of Utah States head coach Blake Anderson, watch the video below. It’s worth the time I promise.

One of my older brothers went to UA at 5'3" and grew to 5'7" his freshman year and put on 30 lb. Of course, he was only 16. :) One of my SILs had an even more dramatic spurt in her freshman year at OM...
My youngest (who is 15 now) grew 1 foot and lost 15 pounds over the last year.

He looks like a completely different person.

Colorado HC Deion Sanders

Deion Sanders calls for more stick-to-itiveness from college players

... this title was a link, but I took it out. I did not even read the article.

Just wanted to trot this title out here to laugh at the irony

I see lots of hand ringing about who has left and now that we offered a LB from South Alabama. I will remind everyone that DeBeor did not luck his way into a 104-12 record. If he thinks the LB can help, then I think we can probably trust his judgement better than ours.

And, there will be an open portal in the spring. Do you not think that there will be players that see an opportunity to start for Bama at certain positions and will jump at the chance?

Have some patience.

There's currently 116 players on the new 2024 online roster. Not sure how many scholarships. My guess is about 79. We can only have 85. Not sure. But we can't add too many.

It just looks and feels so much worse with the timing this year. We are basically the only team (sorry UW) losing very highly rated recruits right now so all eyes are on us and it seems disastrous.

If it were the normal portal window and every other top team were losing highly rated recruits at the same time, the optics would be totally different. But as it stands now, the spotlight is only on us so the negativity is amplified...

The difference is who is leaving. We weren’t losing key contributing starters and highly ranked early enrollees in 2022 and 2023. Not saying we won’t weather this, but I don’t think listing just the number of transfers tells us much.

Dude, we are still in the National Championship hunt.

I don't think it was anywhere near as bad as it could have been regarding the timing. Saban was retiring sooner than later, and it just so happened it was this offseason. He retired soon enough for us to hire probably one of the top five coaches in the country. Not to mention that apparently, DeBoer was Byrne's first choice.

If you want to see "worst" timing, get ready to see Michigan when Harbaugh takes the Chargers job and leaves them in late January or early February JUST BEGINNING a coaching search. That's not counting having to deal with recruits entering the transfer portal. Saban gave us enough time to hire one of the top coaches, assemble a staff and get stability to begin preparing for 2024. Michigan is about to be a stage 5 crapshow.

But we did. Not to the portal, but to the draft. We lost big time players every year. I don't really think the portal exits are as much of a big deal as everyone is making it out to be. We're not as deep as we once were, but the guys left are still majority 4*s and 5*s. Even the guys left in the secondary, a lot of them are young and inexperienced, but they're all highly touted guys, so it's not like we're left with a bunch of scrubs. Does losing guys like Downs hurt? Absolutely. However, sometimes chemistry is more important than pure talent. We've seen it before where we do lose key guys, and the team ends up improving because they gel better together. Who is to say that can't happen with this team?

Multiple sources reporting that Harbaugh and the Chargers are close to a deal. Obviously, that means the Michigan portal would open for 30 days. And, if they don't elevate Sherrone Moore to replace Harbaugh, at least one other school's.
he was never coming to Atlanta. He and his agent played the chargers and falcons for fools.

It happens - I graduated from HS at 5’10. Guy was a year younger, a year behind me, and when I graduated he was about 5’8”.
I don’t see him till 4 years later, he’s 6’1. He didn’t grow 5 inches in one year.
