I should take my own advice and realize that some of these guys leaving are blessings in disguise. I don’t know what happened after 2020 but it wrecked that locker room big time. It explains Dallas Turner’s whole aura after the Rose Bowl

If there is one fault I have in Nick Saban it has been there has been a decline since 2018 that he refused to address. Yeah we won it un 2020 and almost did in 2021, but 2020 was by far the exception of exceptions. You had natural born leaders and selfless guys who wanted to accomplish something bigger than themselves.

But the decline happened in 2018 and without Tua, the 2020, and Bryce you would have seen far more gashes than what we saw. I blame it on changing from being about player development to recruiting. You have way too many Golding’s, Trobs, and who is that’s who can get the big fish to campus but has absolutely no idea how to control them or make them better.

The signs really were there in 2021 when Billingsley and Hall made it all about themselves, and I really think had we lost another game after Texas this year then we quite possibly would’ve seen people quit the team or loaf during games. Whether Saban was here or not we would have had to deal with 15-20 guys entering the portal.

I think these comments are dumb. We were still one of the best teams in the country and were a few inches away from the Lawson tip ball in Michigan drive away from winning another title. This team was talented but they were not as talented as past teams and with the new NIL teams will be less and less talented. That Michigan team doesn’t sniff a title 5-10 years ago because of talent it doesn’t matter how much of a team they were. We won a lot of championships just because we were much much more talented then them not because they were so much more of a team. We had teams with Hurts, Tua, Mac Jones on same roster. We had Henry, Drake, Kamara, Yeldon on same roster. We had Smith, Jeudy, Riggs, and Waddle on same roster. We haven’t had that type of depth and roster the last few years.

The times have also changed and there a differences in social media and how kids act not just at Alabama but everywhere the last 5 years. You gonna see the same issues with Deboer as Saban with players. Georgia who has won 2 titles and could won 3 had mass exit thus season and will have huge turnover next but they won last two years because of all talent they had previous years look at some of the issues they had even those last few years.

The Roman Army was still one of the most advanced and feared armies in the world at the time of the Roman Empire’s downfall. It still doesn’t change the fact that it was breeding weak people to run it internally.

So it’s only dumb if you are wearing some thick crimson glasses and only looking at it from a result based view point. There have been serious cracks in the system and it’s been the lack of real coaches since 2018. In most cases we were just out talenting folks more than out coaching them.

What have the Romans done for us?

I would think this points more toward someone like Lonergan or Simpson leaving, not Sayin................Sayin has made no indication that he wants to leave, and hasn't said anything. I'd put some money on the fact that DeBoer and Grubb both paid him a visit and discussed how he would flourish in their system...............so lets dont panic yet. Also, I look for more players of need to transfer in now that it seems there is a greater opportunity for playing time
Well, I damn sure hope that the saying, " The portal taketh and the portal giveth " is accurate in full. We certainly know that the "taketh " part is a reality. If we don`t get some sort of infusion, particularly at certain positions, I think we`ll be playing a bunch of youngsters next season. That might be good for 2-3 years hence ( wait, silly me. NOBODY that`s any good stays that long! ) , but it also might mean getting your brains beat out a time or two.

The team didn’t seem as dominant the past few years but I don’t think Saban retiring before he did would have been a help.
im going out on a limb here but my guess is Saban was aware of the relative strength and weaknesses of his coaches and did the best he could with what was available at the time.
