Better to have tried, and failed, than never to have tried at all.
Yeah, the only person who has not failed in business is the one who has never tried. Trump's business acumen is unmatched in the current field.

Teddy Roosevelt said "Speak softly and carry a big stick." Trump certainly has the big stick (more like a club), but he could definitely learn to speak more softly.

Trump has used bankruptcy at least 4 times to bail his companies out of their responsibilities. He rarely risks his own money, screws over his creditors, yet always does well for himself. He is the ultimate slimy opportunist and people want to put him in the most powerful seat in the free world. Seems to me like that will end well for exactly one person, Trump

I think Trump's an egomaniacal moron, but what I quoted above pretty much describes every president we've had in my lifetime.

I can't quarrel with that for a businessman, but, again, is that what you really want in a president?
For me personally, yes. He's already made the mistakes that led to failure, thus is far less likely to repeat them than someone who has never been there.
This entire country is in an economic mess. Now I agree that we can't very well declare national bankruptcy.
Otoh, who better to correct an economic downturn than a man who has been at the head of business most of his adult life?
I also agree that there are far more situations facing this nation than just economics. But at this time, economics seems to be at or near the top of the heap. Also as has been mentioned before, Trump is the only one trying to address the real issues while all the others seem to be either ignoring them or are willing to concede most of them to those on the left.
Imo, he's really the only one who can and wants to win the election and then do what needs to be done.

As usual, your point is spot on. There are so many factors to weigh in presidential elections. Trump is a self-promoting businessman who would not be my first (or second or third) choice for president. His past business failures, bankruptcies, etc do not disqualify him in my mind, but no I do not think the overall picture fits particularly well with that of a natuon's president.

All that said, our distaste in voting for certain candidates can also be somewhat relative based on the opposition. I want Bama to beat Miss. state this year but will be likely be rooting for Miss state to beat Auburn. It will be the same with Trump for me on whichever ballot he may be on. And I hope he does not run third party, though it may be just wishful thinking.

To be fair what realistic candidate that is running next year is actually qualified to be president? The answer is none. They are all either weak or morons, I think trumps biggest appeals are his bravado and the fact he isn't a politician

Go ahead and post it, if there's nothing in it inappropriate. Also, we don't ban for that. We just delete the link. I've posted some links where I look back and thought "crap!" and deleted them. Back to Trump, being born on 3rd base and inheriting something between 200 and 400 million doesn't hurt. Nevertheless, he basically went totally broke back in 1990 and it took a lot of banks and other creditors taking a haircut and swapping 1st mortgages for junior liens for him to make it out of the jam. However, give him credit for making it out. After that crisis, he did a much better job of insulating his enterprises from each other, so that he could bankrupt one or the other, a NJ casino, for example, without bringing down his whole empire...
Here's that article.

Amen. This is the guy that said that he'd build a wall on the border and force Mexico to pay for it. And his proposal a few years ago to solve the problem of high gas prices was to tell the Saudi's, "Enough. You've had your fun." It's not hard for me to imagine him pushing some equally egotistical idiot world leader to the point where "discussions" turn into a whizzing contest. One where neither of them has the good sense to take a step back and say, "You know, my ego isn't worth where this might end up." Trump is exactly the personality type who might do something that would kill millions (or billions) for no other reason than that he felt personally insulted or didn't get what he wanted. And, after the smoke cleared and the bodies were buried, he'd say, "That loser shouldn't have messed with Trump." Assuming there was anybody left for him to say it to.

And even-keeled thoughtful analysis, by a conservative at Politico, as to why Trump is resonating.

these Trump acolytes ... are, however, angry. Very angry. And many are agonizingly fearful about the future of the nation. They believe that vast changes to the country are being wrought in ways that are undemocratic, dishonest and perhaps even illegal.
His blunt promise to stop illegal immigration touches on perhaps the conservatives’ deepest concern of all: that their culture and the Constitutional order are disintegrating with such rapidity that they hardly recognize the country they are living in. There is a sense of desperation that is fueling support for a proven achiever and fearless confrontationalist like Trump.
I think the man acts in an unpresdiential manner and will flame out, but he is resonating for a reason, in a way in which spineless milk-toast Republicans cannot or refuse to.

Exactly why I liked your comparison to Wallace. He's saying things that others are afraid to...

Neither party is interested in controlling immigration (for different reasons).
Both say they want to control the border, but neither does anything substantive to accomplish that.
How many times do they have to tinkle down my back and tell me its raining before I say, "Hang on a minute. It appears you are not being truthful."

No problem. Then they just say, "Sorry. You're right, we were tinkling. But, they are still urinating not just on your back, but in your face too. And, if you don't stand up against their tyranny, they'll end up pooping on your face. Stand up for your rights now before it's too late!"

so, when tyranny shows up, it will be in the form of golden showers and scat play?
