BREAKING trump wins, why?

Now's the time to call them dumb, which many are, not before an election.

And those same people don't forget. Because in four years the same people you're advocating calling "dumb" you're going to want their vote in four years. What a great marketing strategy. That's a big part of politicians and those involved in politics problems. I'm not sure when it started but the elementary school "game" of name calling to mass groups of people has ZERO productively for "your" cause and many times backfires. And according to several pundits (on liberal-leaning networks) that was definitely baked into a big part of this election. When name-calling becomes incorporated into the means of communication you can all but guarantee the message you're trying to convey is never heard.

It doesn't work on a personal level (one on one) or a corporate level. If you call me dumb in the present but want something from me in the future, you can bet your bottom dollar my circumstances would have to be dire for me to work with you. People who do this need to start waking up to how human beings actually function.

'Those people' dont know I called some of them dumb and if they did probably wouldn't care that much. I never said it should be a marketing strategy. Simply recognizing that many voted the way they did because they were misinformed.

If it's on the internet, it gets to the masses. You're also not the only one doing it. It's a problem within politics in general that goes all the way up to those involved in each party. "Deplorables" ring a bell? She could have had the cure to cancer but once the name-calling and condescension started nothing she said mattered. She lost the votes that would have mattered to her.

Yup and thats why I said you dont do that when she did. Sometimes its best to hold your tongue and not shoot yourself in the foot. But it still doesn't change the facts.

You don't do it at all because there will be another election and those same people you want to be able to reach in four years, not alienate. It's called not burning bridges. It's critical in business.

It’s amusing to see this election cast as some sort of referendum on Democratic Party values. Things like defunding the police and trans issues aren’t on the radar. Even abortion rights, supported by most of the country (as evidenced by actual results), made little difference in the national vote. This election, just like the one in 2020, was determined by the economy wrought by Covid. The responses to the crisis by Trump in 2020 and Biden following his election (along with virus-related factors out of their control) cost both parties the presidency. This was no more an endorsement of Trump than the last election was of Biden.

Extremes from both ends of the spectrum aside, most Americans want their country and life to be stable, fair, and positive. The past eight years, particularly the last five, have been anything but that. Whichever party can offer some semblance of a return to the 2019 economy and stability will be the one that holds the office longer than four years. Only then will social debates and other political issues gain importance to much of the electorate.

Can Trump do that for the country as well as his party? Considering that his priorities extend no further than his personal needs and desires, I have my doubts. Maybe by accident. I hope so, for our nation’s sake.

I think it is funny this thread has devolved into both sides calling each other's voters dumb.
This. Grocery prices were this year's "but her emails!" excuse.

They will not hold Republicans' feet to the fire when they destroy (again) a vibrant economy. Just as they muted all the dementia talk when Biden left the race. We are left with a corrupt, valueless, demented old man.
It is only a vibrant economy for the wealthy and billionaire class who are raking in the profits by ripping off middle/lower class Americans. I'm so tired of the left and the Biden admin tell us how great the economy is when prices are outrageous. Sure, more people have jobs but we still can't afford to buy anything.

I do think it was mostly the economy, and I don't think that is just an excuse to cover racism, etc.

I wish I could find it but, last night, CNN showed this map one time, and only once. It was a map showing every county in the country, color coded by whether inflation outpaced wages or wages outpaced inflation. The darker the color on either end of the spectrum the worse/better it was. John King pointed out 2 things with this map:

Out of over 4000 counties across this nation, you could count on 1 hand the number of counties where wages outpaced inflation. 5 out of 4000+.

The counties across the nation that saw the worst inflation outpacing wages lined up almost perfectly with the counties that Trump saw the most gains from 2020. That spells it out pretty clearly to me. Unfortunately, I don't think Trump can fix the economy with the stupid "plans" he has mentioned.

Many times verbally and unconsciously the person projects onto the other group. It is a defense mechanism. I call you dumb, therefore I do not have to think, and I can feel as if I am superior because you are dumb. Quite fascinating from someone who has one of their degrees in the Science of Psychology. You are 100% correct. Unless an extreme amount of respect is bestowed on the person criticizing, talking down to or labeling someone to their face or online, rarely works.

It is time for the country to come together. There are too many problems and too many hurting people. There is a lot to be done. The American people and God have spoken.

Lots of issues. You are correct imo in that the economy was #1. My wife and I were talking about our bills the other day and I responded, "a lot of people are in much worse situations than us and I think you would be surprised at how many." We are a country of debt right now. Credit card debt is at an all time historical high. The data shows that the average adult American has $9,000 in just CCD. Considering many don't make that much in 3 months take home pay, you get the idea of where our economy currently stands. Non-negotiables such as groceries, rent, gas, etc are still being purchased. Americans don't have a choice on those things so they have turned to the only thing they do have when their bank account has dried up, their handy dandy credit card. Americans are tired of seeing hundreds of billions of dollars flood overseas for a "good cause" when they are struggling to feed their families and they used their voice this election at the polls. Kamala didn't show anyone, even the most fervent Democrat what differentiated her enough from Biden's plan that was going to get America back on track. Most of us don't need 50k to start up a new business. We are just trying to hold on to the job we have and hope that prices decrease just enough that we can pay off our debt, keep a little money in the savings account, and have a few bucks left over to go on vacation or place a bet or two on a ball game or play golf with a buddy. It is quite a paradox in that the issue is quite deep but it isn't.

I normally stay out of these political discussions here on the NS board, but I do read them regularly. It is obvious that the majority of the regular posters in this room are liberal, but I'll share my 2 cents as someone who is very conservative but does support certain liberal policies.

It is clear that the majority of Americans are fed up with open borders, terrible economy (high inflation, high interest rates, cost of goods), giving billions of taxpayer dollars to foreign nations while our own citizens suffer, and forcing this woke/LGBTQ/transgender crap down our throats as being the norm versus the exception.

I'm optimistic that Trump will actually do some of the things that he promised. Continuing to call those of us that didn't support Harris dumb, stupid, racist, homophobic, Bible thumper, etc. is just one reason the Dems lost, they've moved way too far to the left, and the American People resoundingly said no to that stance and vision.

Good luck with that. If trump follows through on things that he said he would do, we're in for a rough ride. Fortunately, he accomplished very little the last time and will probably do similar this time.

Trump made a statement last night that was actually smart. He said success would help to get us on the same page. He is right. Many have revoked him. They have drank the Kool-Aid of "he is evil". I won't argue that point as in it is a waste of energy but I do agree with him in that if you get the economy back on track and people start to have success again, many of the wounds that we see now will heal.

Or maybe you reevaluate your judgement of half of the population instead of demonizing them, even just in your heart.
I dont think anyone actually deamonized half the population, on purpose. Language is very important and people should always be careful of using absolutes (which I just did with ''always'). Absolutes should never (there I go again) be said or left open for interpretation.

I guess in a two-party system, one idiot has to win. IMO, Kamala didn't distance herself enough from the most recent idiot. 🤷‍♂️
Kamala would have done better too if she presented herself as more serious about the issues rather than laugh like a drunken hyena at every question she was asked... just sayin...

This was impossible under the current administration because they put the world ahead of Americans.
