Trump's Policies Part 2

American farmers suffered this fate in the first round of tariffs on China. China was our biggest export market for agricultural commodities. China pivoted to other markets to replace our commodities. They didnt come back and that has resulted in poor domestic commodity prices ever since.

China announced retaliatory tariffs today on, you guessed it, American agricultural commodities.

This will and is reverberating through rural communities. The largest constituency that put Trump in office. The farmers are already in some real pain.

Here's Canada's problem, once they lose customers over tariffs and those customers find new brands, they will likely NEVER win them back.

American entrepreneurs will step in and sell replacements and alternatives.

Don't forget it added to the deficit, because additional farm subsidies were created to reimburse farmers for their losses.

Yes, im betting those tariffs generated a positive ROI once the bailout subsidies were factored in...

If you had told me that a shooting war with Canada was even a remote possibility even a few months ago, I would have called Taylor Hardin on you.

This admin in just a few weeks has managed to tick off just about every Ally we have… or had.

It’s going to be the everyday citizen that gets hurt from it.

But even knowing that I hope other countries make it hurt BAD.

Something has to wake everyone up before we see Russia and China and the USOR (United States of Russia) vs the rest of the world in WWIII

There are Traitors in the WH and we’ve all become too docile and slaves to technology to defend ourselves.

We’re all going to mess around and find out.

We're now part of the "Axis of Evil". What a world.

Border control and out of control tariffs on US goods into Canada.

Apparently this whole 51st state things started at a dinner in Mar-A-Lago in November of last year. Peter Doocy reported: "Tonight we're getting some new details about that Trump-Trudeau dinner from two people who were at the table. We're told that when Trudeau told President-elect Trump that new tariffs would kill the Canadian economy, Trump joked to him that if Canada can't survive without ripping off the U.S. to the tune of $100 billion per year, then maybe Canada should become the 51st state, and Trudeau can become its governor."

I'm always suspicious of unsourced memes... Only had time for the first one because it is an interesting and more complex story. Couldn't find anything on a Canadian egg tariff... will have to look again later.

Trump killed NAFTA. If he has an issue with how it works now, he’s the one that negotiated that deal.
You missed my point - NAFTA distorted the market and flooded our neighboring countries with our jobs and money.

If you equate 'making sense' to 'cheapest', then what I replied to makes sense.

No I understand. There are a lot of things we can't make cheaper not due to labor costs, but because we flat out suck at it. Things like this don't really help either.

That was an attempt to bring semiconductor production onshore, but Trump in his infinite wisdom wants to kill it I guess becuase Biden did it. Basically when the Taiwan companies set up a plant they have to import the labor for half the plant becuase the domestic workforce can't produce at the quality needed. High failure rates mean higher costs......

Unless you believe the Taiwanese are simply more intelligent than Americans, it's down to training.

No one thinks that all we have to do is build manufacturing facilities - part of the reason we've become a consumer nation is because we chased price over all else. Literally zero reason these chips (for example) cannot be manufactured at the same (if not higher) quality than anywhere else.

Bringing manufacturing back to America is not just good for Americans, it's a national security interest at this point. And we'll be fine.

How long are you willing to suffer economic consequences waiting until we are "fine"? I guess that is really my question. All these this problems were created over decades of offshoring, all the solutions are long term solutions.

A lot of Americans are lazy and entitled, so if they have a job like that, they're thinking about the next greatest thing they're going to be doing instead of focusing on being the best at what they're currently doing. Two different environment and cultures.

Also this is my last comment on it, time and time again all the talk about "Made in America" has been shown to be just that. Talk. The average American consumer will talk about it, but when it comes the time to buy they decide based on price. It is the reason i can't go spend $250 anymore and buy my favorite pair of jeans with domestic produced denim. Even with a 25% tariff it is cheaper to import jeans and that is what people bought. Not enough people purchased them, and the denim plant shut down. Now your options are jeans produced overseas or $450+ boutique jeans made with denim from Japan. I'm not really sure how you rectify that. I think US made Wranglers made it up to $125 before they stopped making them. How many people buying Wranglers for $30 at Walmart are going to start paying $125?

That is just one example. I'm sure we can come up with more.
