Trump: The tariff system made so much money. It was when we were the richest from 1870 to 1913. Then we came in with the income tax. We don't want others to pay. Let's have our people pay. Then you had the depression in 1928, 1929. I call it 1929…
How about paying workers a decent wage so you don't have to work for tips? We are the only country that does this.

Well, if he said he was going to bomb the Columbian drug cartels in exchange for receiving deportees, I would be okay with this. I would like to see what would would happen if we declared war on some of these countries because of the illicit drug industry.

More than likely those deportees will be jailed or killed because they know they don't support the government. Sending them back with a Scarlet A.

We might not like why they are coming, legally or illegally. But we need to consider why the are coming. I'm sure if we were in their shoes we would be walking too.

I can tell you why 99% came. For a better life, plain and simple. I mean, would you rather languish in Venezuela, with nothing and no hopes to ever better your standing in life or would you come to the United States where your children will receive free health care and a quality education and you will likely be able to find work? It won't be high paying but it will dang sure be better than what you had back home. The worst off people in the US still have it better than 95% of the citizens in these third world countries.

All this talk of political persecution is a bunch of hooha. The governments of those countries could care less if you stayed or left for the US. As long as you aren't a political activist you are probably safe from political persecution. Crime might get you killed in some of these places but not from being a failed migrant.

Here are Trump’s policies in the first eight days. This is the exact same gas station just 70 hours apart, and my prices are going up.

Um......that graph is a bit disingenuous, isn't it?

#1...it's for next year. That's a long ways off.

#2....from that graph's webpage......below is a breakdown of where increases/decreases come from.

Among other things, it assumes the 60% tariff on China - which Trump has been backing off of strongly.*

taxchart.jpg

*SINGAPORE: From threatening a 60 per cent tariff on Chinese imports during his election campaign to talking about a far lower rate of 10 per cent after his inauguration, then saying he would “rather not” impose them at all, just days later.

Even if it's just extending the 2017 tax cuts, it's absurd to cut taxes on the top 1% unless you can guarantee that money is pumped into the economy of the poorest 40% which we all know is NOT the case. The top 1% hoard most of their money, and/or hide it offshore.

The graph was not only incorrect - it was fear mongering propaganda.

Feel free to post another one more closer to reality. :)

It would be nice if every once in a while Republicans would actually hold Trump responsible for his words/actions rather than the constant gaslighting, excuse making, and blame-shifting. Did Trump make those proposals? Has he threatened exorbitant tariffs on those who dare to cross him? Has he expressed any legitimate concern about the effects of those tariffs on middle-class Americans?

From the article:
Chen Qiheng, an affiliated researcher at the Asia Society Policy Institute’s Center for China Analysis, added that it is possible Trump could be “waiting for a legal foundation” before waging a full-out trade war.
Trump has ordered an evaluation of US trade policy, which could pave the way for new tariffs, Chen warned.
Federal agencies have until Apr 1 to submit their findings and recommendations.
These will include analyses of persistent US trade deficits, unfair trade practices, and currency manipulation among partner countries, including China.
The release of these findings “could lead to further escalations”, Chen adds.
“We have a hanging sword … The trade war is brewing and how deep it gets will depend on tariff threats.”
Others say the move could just be an opening salvo in a broader trade war that has been brewing between the world’s two biggest economies - one “very likely to intensify” under Trump that would place key industries like precious semiconductor microchips, squarely in the crosshairs.

Doesn't sound like fearmongering propaganda to me. It sounds like something we should be concerned about. Not all of us think Trump is the cat's meow.

In a dictatorship, the people are an annoyance.
