If Love can get that kind of money, more power to him.
True, but more expensive tickets, merch, and concessions driving the average fan further and further from the seats onto their couches…then again, the real money is is the TV contracts anyway…just sad the the new generation will be couch fans and not know the thrill of “Rocky Block” and the feel of how that stadium literally shook that day…

These teams (like the Dolphins) know they have to overpay for guys like Tua who though all of us love as a Bama alum, really hasn't performed to the level of that type of contract. But above average quarterbacks (not superstars) are getting superstar type of contracts because that's how valuable having stability at the QB position is in the NFL.

Love Tua but he is not a top 10 QB in the NFL. He has one of the most stacked offensive rosters in the game and an offensive genius for a coach. I hope I am wrong but I don't think he wins a playoff game that isn't played in Miami. You can see what he does in cold weather in the playoffs. Once again, great guy and I am very happy for him but he is not worth $52 million/year at this point.
Say what now?

He was 1st in the NFL in Passing Yards, 3rd in the NFL in Comp%, and 6th in Passing TD's

He's not Top 10

He's Top 5

He's racked up a lot of stats but one of the ESPN morning shows put together a breakdown of his statistics and the lions share of his stats are accumulated against teams with losing records. They put up a graphic showing the dramatic drop-off in performance when he plays against quality teams compared to inferior ones. IMO, he needs to start putting up big numbers against the better teams and not just the bottom feeders.

Fair…Telling stat and a little eye-opening.

Tua has never won a playoff game in the NFL. Not one. IMO, these guys are all overrated - the entire 2020 class.
Yeah, but he's literally 0-1. He'll win one. Sometimes it just takes a little bit of time. I also think it took him a few years to fully recover from the injury he suffered his final year at Bama. It also didn't help that he had an incompetent head coach for the first few seasons who tried to destroy his career. We've seen his rise the last two years under McDaniel and it will continue. I think he throws for 5,000 yards this season.

ESPN has always been on the Tua hate train. Tua plays against the defense, so looking at the win/loss record doesn't tell you much. Some of the teams he balled out against (like the Jets) had better defenses than the teams he played poorly against. What does that tell me? Well, the schedule last year had most the easy games at the beginning of the year, and the tougher games were all at the end, and by the time the tougher games rolled around, Tua was playing with 3-4 backup o line, depending on the game. That's happened the last two years with the Dolphinz. No QB is gonna play well with that many backups.on the O line.

I can't argue for or against stats that ESPN posted. I don't have the time to fact check them. I just took them at face value. But what earns QB's respect are playoff wins and Super Bowls. We can debate until the cows come home whether Tua was "worth" this big contract or not. But I think his future performance will determine that more than what he's done up to this point. If he doesn't start winning playoff games and getting to Super Bowls he will be viewed as another Kirk Cousins. The guy who can rack up a lot of stats but can't win big games.

I LOVE Tua. He's maybe my favorite player of all time. I own 1 NFL jersey and it is his and I'm not a Dolphins fan.

He is not a top 5 QB and I'd have to think it through to see if he could be considered a top 10 QB.

The stats say that he is...The eye test says that he is now that he is healthy again.

I don't know what you guys are talking about.

Stats can be misleading.

Tua is not better than Mahomes, Lamar, Allen, or Rodgers. And then there are guys like Burrow, Dak, Herbert, Stafford, Stroud, Love and Purdy who you could make an argument for at 5. Tua may fall somewhere in that group but i think he'd be closer to 10 than 5 IMO.

Not to mention Goff. And probably a couple others. Tua is top 15 and can work his way up higher. But he's not top 5

Lamar and Dak are the only two names you listed with a higher QBR last season than Tua

Stroud is the only one who threw for more yards per game.

Tua was 6th in TD's behind 5 of the guys you named.

He's right there with all of them right now and better statistically than most.

Does he have to be #1 in every single stat to be better than Top 15?

And Stroud was a rookie. It's not a forgone conclusion that he's gonna repeat that next season. I've seen many a rookie drop off after a promising first season.

Stats can be misleading but one of the better stats for ranking QBs is ESPNs QBR (almost no one looks at the traditional QB Rating anymore) and Tua ranked 10th last year in QBR.

Tua also has Hill, Waddle, the most efficient running game in the NFL and a top 3(maybe top 1) offensive mind in football.

Again, I love Tua. But he's solidly top 15 and you could argue top 10. But he's not in that top 5 territory at least not right now.

Definitely possible. I don't think Stroud is definitively better than Tua. Too small of a sample size. But he might be and he showed more of an ability to create than Tua has IMO. It may not be sustainable though we will see.

Well all I can say is thank god you're a fan of Tua and love him. I'd hate to see a critique from someone who wasn't and didn't....lol

You can be a fan and still be honest in your assessment. Just because I'm a Commanders fan doesn't mean I think they are going to win the Super Bowl or even push for the playoffs this year.

I hope Tua remembers the important role Bama played in getting him where he is and pays it forward by giving a 7 figure donation to Yea Alabama Every year so CKD can buy the next batch of five stars.

You are biased as a Bama fan. Facts are that he has 2 of the best receivers in the NFL. And 2 of the fastest. Hill cannot be defended.

And it's not just me or ESPN. I like Tua but he is not a top 10 QB right now and he should not be getting paid $52 million.
