Ty Simpson named starter for FSU game

I don’t like the false starts. I don’t worry about the ability of the OL, but I do worry about the discipline. Holding and false starts are an easy way to keep inferior teams in the game.

I won’t say we were spoiled under Saban with the level of discipline we had since that’s an aspect that any good coaching staff should handle, but I worry about the discipline under this staff. That’s totally based on last year, so I know it’s an area that can be corrected. I just need to see it. There were a million reasons we lost to Vandy, but untimely penalties was an easily avoidable one.

The false starts happened a little later in the scrimmage, and they all seemed to happen in a cluster. I’ll be honest, I didn’t see the OL in at the time, but I’ll say that I didn’t leave the scrimmage thinking, “oh boy, here we go.”

The mental errors/false starts/illegal motion/shifts were happening more and more under CNS over the last few years of his tenure too.

If they don't know this, they won't be in Tuscaloosa very long. The record last season is unacceptable as the norm for Alabama football.
I don't think it's as much the record as it is to whom and how they lost. 9-4, while not to Bama's recent standards isn't terrible considering. Losing to Vanderbilt and Oklahoma and Michigan like they did, though, is inexcusable. THAT's what they need to worry about.

I think learning that you have to prepare hard for each week in the SEC will make or break DeBoer. We looked sharp against Wisconsin and Georgia and LSU, which were three games I thought could be losses before the season started. We looked pathetic against Vandy, OU, and Michigan, and I do mean pathetic. If DeBoer and his staff can figure out how to get more consistency from week to week and quarter to quarter and play to play, I think they will do well in Tuscaloosa. They seem to be solid recruiters, so finding consistency could deliver some special seasons, including this one. Roll Tide!

@Cruloc is talking about the national narrative from casuals and pundits. Everyone on this board knows why Ty wasn’t starting.
What boggles my mind is that more opponents didn’t figure out the obvious way to stop Milroe. Or maybe they just didn’t have the horses to pull it off.
