I'm very happy for TY! Living here in West Tennessee and near his home town I've kept up with him since highschool, as I have said before we are going to be fine with him at QB, the young man has been breaking film down with his Dad since he was like 10 yrs old, his Dad was a QB at Southern Mississippi and also has been a QB coach to go with his Head coaching, he knows the position, will he make mistakes of course who doesn't, but the fruit of success will be better than the failure RTR

Most of us ( me included) , have wanted Ty in there for two years. Now that the job is his, it’s gonna be real interesting to see if we were right. I think he has what it takes, in terms of mobility and arm. But his inability to get on the field last year during Milroe meltdowns does give me pause. ( I know..LANK LANK). Fingers optimistically crossed!!
Another aspect that hasn't really been addressed much is that we sold out to a certain style last year due to JM being the unquestioned QB1. The entire offense was customized for his skillset. It isn't an easy peasy fix to just simply throw the playbook out the window in the middle of the season and start running plays that fit Simpson's abilities. This season we have three guys who all have similar styles and they also are styles that CKD and Grubb are most comfortable with. I expect to see a much more fluid, efficient, and explosive offense this season.

I have little to no doubts Ty can run the offense and even be exceptional once he gets a little experience. My greatest fear is that he will let his desire to succeed push him on plays that he needs to just throw away and end up getting hurt. As much as I hate seeing a play go for nothing I've noticed the QB's that win rings all know when to give up on a play and move on to the next.

The good thing is we've had several QB's (that we won titles with) who had to learn when to give up on a play and live to play another down. I think Ty will have some moments (early on) where he may try to do too much, but ultimately will learn. Let's just hope those times don't cost us games. There's nothing wrong with making mistakes; it's when they cost you games that it becomes a problem.

I also think having Grubb back was a real confidence boost for him. Grubb's personality seems more Type A and aggressive than Sheridan's (last years OC). I'm hoping that is reflected in how the offense is called and executed.
Grubb is very aggressive.

I feel safe in saying our Offense will try and dictate what opposing defenses do and make them adjust and react 1st…. If they can.

I don't know a lot about X's and O's, but one of the things that has confused me over the last few years is that it seems like we have recruited highly rated quarterbacks, but they all were very different from each other. Am I way off base? Is this a side effect of the constant OC turnover? Are some of our recent QBs panic recruits when we lost out on more highly desired players?

Mac’s recorded 40 time is faster than Ty’s [4.74 vs 4.81], but Ty is a far superior athlete to Mac. Mac’s 40 is the same as Mahomes and better than Tua’s [4.84], but he is an awkward athlete, relatively speaking. Ty seems like a bright kid but it’s highly unlikely that he has the same smarts as Mac, but he may have as high of a football IQ as Mac (I assume i can say that since both are the same ethnicity). He’s probably not as accurate (77.4% sounds like video game numbers). 68-72% should be doable and would provide a good base performance for the O. Let’s see what DeBoer/Grubb/Ty can do. It’s a very good group of receivers with the WRs, Cuevas & ?, JM & DH & ? Could become elite, but at the least should be very good.
Does not mention a 40 time but this review is quite good. Don't think Mac would have had this review.

Ty Simpson is known for his speed and ability to extend plays, with some even comparing his play style to Patrick Mahomes. While he's known as a versatile quarterback, his speed and improvisational skills are considered notable strengths. NFL Draft Buzz notes that his release speed is rated at 82%.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:
  • Playmaking Ability:
Simpson's speed allows him to scramble and make plays outside of the designed passing game.

  • Arm Strength:
He's also noted for having above average arm strength and a wide base when throwing.

two things we've heard since the scrimmage make me hopeful he won't push too hard. CKD said he's thrown ZERO picks in all of camp. That sounds like he's not taking risks he shouldn't. GMAC then said TS only made 1 bad read/decision in the scrimmage. i.e. he knows what to do and processes almost all of it correctly.

so all the raw material is there, so like I said before, now he's just got to prove he can do it in live fire.

It doesn't hurt that Grubb and CKD run a QB friendly offense. I have held my excitement in but I'm starting to have a hard time doing that...

There was really only one that was a panic recruit when we missed on who we wanted. All the others, while having different levels of different strengths pretty much fit a similar mold. Tua, Mac, Bryce, TS, Lonergan, Holstien and even Sayin were all considered pass first guys who also had a reasonably high level of overall athleticism - not elite level athletes, but better than average QB athletes so they can extend/escape if a play breaks down.

All I will say is after two different staffs gave Milroe a leash from here to the Moon, Ty better get the same treatment. He has earned it.
I get everyone knocking the coaches for the Jalen Milroe experiment. And this isn’t an attack, but I do believe the reason for the long leash was because of 2 staffs. Had Nick and Rees stayed a second year I believe Milroe may have been pulled at some point for Ty , like Jalen was pulled Tua . Milroe is that superb athlete that if the light comes on for him, he could be the best dual threat ever. The new staff thought they could turn the light on for him, Like Sark , then Rees before them.
We complain, but Jalen did get us within a play or two from playing in the National Championship game.

Just going to drop these here…

We have a small sample to go off of but I’ve always thought Ty throws a nice catchable ball.

He gives his guys a chance and puts it right on them in the hands/number area.

These highlights also show a good mix of his pocket mobility and scrambling to either buy time for a throw or take off and get the 1st down or more.

If anyone wonders why I’ve compared to him Bryce and Manziel wrt to escape acts watch that HS video.

I’m really excited to see his 1st start vs FSU and I think he’ll have a really good year throwing to RW, Germie, Horton, Brooks, Scott, Adams, and Cuevas etc etc.

Maybe a GREAT year!!

RTR!!!
Thanks for sharing! Man, I know these are "highlights" and not "lowlights" but he looks really good when he looks really good!!!

And, I've been confident in his arm talent, but I think we'll see him make some defenses look silly with his RPO vision skills. All I'll say is TS has vision and knows what to look for/read.
