Game Thread: Uconn vs. Purdue...

It’s like a rugby game out there. At least 90s big man ball you had Olajuwon and Robinson who could finesse you some.

Hurley at midcourt talking to another teams player? T that man up for crying out loud.

Yeah, Edey v. Klingon is a clown show. They're playing defense more intensely than we did until late in the tournament. I think that Oats has realized that's the only avenue to a real breakthrough. The issue is whether we tend to accumulate excess fouls is because we don't practice that style enough or we're getting bum officiating, or is it a mixture?

Im interested in what you are saying, but not sure im understanding your comment.

Are you saying we need to score less to get better defensively? It goes hand in hand that offensive prowess usually translates into weaker defensive intensity.

It was a mixture this tournament run

Edit: I will say that one thing still remains true ... defense does win championships. It's the thing that helps makes teams elite. We honestly don't beat UNC nor Clemson without getting the necessary stops during those games.

Bamaville said it so well, there's no need for me to repeat it...

We just didn't have the right pieces this year to be great on Off and Def.

Last year we were 20th in Off Eff and 3rd in Def Eff but imo we we're derailed by the off the court distractions and a few lingering injuries situations.

This year we were 2nd in Off Eff but 111th in Def Eff.

We just fell off a cliff on Defense.

I don't think it's scheme though.

We might need to fine tune some things to create a better balance but we mostly need a couple pieces to be able to do it.

It really hurt losing some of the guys who left early and transferred.

We need at least 1 rim protector that can add something on Offense as a plus.

We could also use a True PG that can consistently drive and finish as well as distribute.

I don't think we are too far from putting it all together.

It's honestly amazing we went as far as we did with such a drop off on Defense.

But back to the point I think we can have both a Great Off and Def with the pace we play because last year showed that.

What we can do about the Officiating I have no clue because it's very rare for us to get fair or favorable calls.

We get absolutely hosed on the road and it makes it virtually impossible for us to win Road SEC games against the Top teams.

But even at Coleman we have zero advantage from the stripes. It's maddening and it's always been like this.

I guess we'll know when we reach 'Blueblood' status when we don't get worked at home and catch some questionable breaks...lol

You can tell how boring the national championship game is by the drift in this thread... 😂

Agree on all, especially the ref part. We don't ever seem to get a break anywhere - road or home. I think if they called our game against UConn fairly, the game would have gone down to the wire. We might not have won, but we would have been in it. But no, they wanted the game they have tonight which isn't much of a game.
