I just heard on ESPNU College Football Live that Gators starting LB A.J. Jones is out for the SECCG. Didn't hear why. Anyone have an update? I'll search for article to confirm.

Edit: OK...found the story.

hate to hear it, I want to beat Florida full strength. Not playing Percy Harvin didn't seal the deal last year. The comments at the bottom of the article were pretty funny.

Sort of puts them where we were when Hightower went down...
That was my first thought, except I think Hightower is better than AJ Jones. I am not pulling for Florida players to be hurt, however I don't want to hear from them after the game that they were not at full strength. Injurys are part of the game and everyone has to deal with them.

I just want to beat Florida. If that happens, I doubt I will be saying at the end of the game, "Darn, I wish they had been at full strength." Hope the kid recovers.

Absolutely. You never know what the season holds, thats just part of the game. I hate it for them but its rare if not impossible to go all season with no injuries.

They are actually still better off than we were for the KY game, since they will have the FSU game to experiment with solutions. For the SECCG, they will be where we were for the OM game...

True, but FSU is not a very good threat offensively since Ponder is gone for the season. I think we will be able to run a little better than we might have since they will be trying to figure out what works still. If we break a few good running plays or screens, Florida may be confused defensively for a while and I would hope we take advantage of that.

Still, I hate to see players go down like this.

We sort of just traded Brandon Hicks for AJ Jones.

-In 2007 AJ started as a freshman.

-In 2008 Brandon Hicks took over the starting spot from AJ. (we won the National Title)

-In 2009 Hicks got injured in the summer practices and AJ stepped in and played well. Hicks just got 100% healthy over the last few weeks and he has looked really good.

So I think it's a wash no matter who starts. This just means Dustin Doe gets more playing time as a backup and Doe was a full-time starter in 2007 and half of 2008 until he got injured....that was when Ryan Stamper stepped up and played well.

Thanks for the info. Looking forward to Atlanta, but I hope the outcome is different this time, IYKWIM. ;)

It's never good losing a player. It doesn't mater if the back ups are just as good as the starters because players often need to come out for breaks or other reasons. It is nice to have 2nd stringers as good as the starters though. You know LSU wishes they would have had another back like Scott and corner like Peterson when they played you a few weeks ago. Some positions are thinner and the starters are just too important to the success of the team. Yes the QB position is important but the offensiveline is usually the most overlooked.
