Urban Meyer thread 2.0...

OSU President now says the two week time frame was more of a guideline. He says now that "the investigation will be finished when it is finished". So it most likely will go longer.

Which most likely indicates that what they're finding isn't so much black-and-white as many seem to want to believe.

I lean towards Meyer skating on this one. I think there is plenty of smoke that reinforces his poor reputation he's earned from his time at Florida. I think he likely tried to sweep the Smith problems under the rug several times. But there is too much he-said-she-said weirdness around the case and enough out there to basically use the AD as a fall guy even though he was likely just doing the football coach's bidding.

Bux will cheer it on and doublethink any cognitive dissonance out of existence.

The rest of the nation will just see it a further conformation of Meyer's reckless win-by-any-means program.

Keep in mind that this means UM remains on AL, which means no contact with the team. Don't get me wrong, we all know that he's being reported to and is directing the practices vicariously, but it's not the same as him being there and working with the team.

IOW, this doesn't help OSU's football team - only hurts it - so I respect the answer.

Maybe now they can actually talk to some of the people involved? It seems everything I have seen says “no on has talked to me”. They are clearly not going to fire Meyer (I am still not clear what he has done wrong other than keep a jerk/crazy who was married to allegedly even crazier employed). So why this song and dance? Somebody will get fired out of this but it won’t be Meyer.

Of course, IMO. Unless it`s just for PR ( " We thoroughly investigated, and found no....." ) and to hopefully diffuse the expected outrage from certain quarters, I don`t know why they`re dragging this out this circus.

for so long the narrative has been that BIG schools stand up for all that is good and righteous in the world and that their student athletes are really students but the SEC is full of win at all costs coaches and administrators and the players are all professional athletes who get grades for coloring within the lines.

with the messes at Penn State, Michigan State and Ohio State, i don't ever want to hear that conceited blather again.

They have pretty much talked to everyone by now, but there is a lot of other stuff that they have to analyze. They have talked to Zach and his family, Courtney and her family, Urban, Gene, and the other former coaches and their wives (in as much as they were willing to talk). So far most have been willing participants. Only Herman has not been fully cooperative.

As an OSU fan, I never bought that garbage. The reality is simple - every institution in the world that has this kind of power has its dirt. Not Penn State dirt, but dirt. You really don't want investigative journalists digging in your back yard. They will dig until they find something.

i wasn't aiming that at you, but the fact of the matter is that many in the BIG (along with many in the media) have looked down their noses at the SEC forever, ridiculing the academics, alleging that it's just a bunch of universities that exist to have football teams and all that nonsense.

to be honest, i think there's a bit of Karma involved.

I'm guessing that if nothing else they want to appear to be as transparent and above-board as possible.
That is all they could ever hope to do. They are not going to change any minds with their report. There is not going to be a "Perry Mason" epiphany. Most of the information is already out there for the public to review. Some of it has been eye opening, but none is the type of evidence that would hold up in court, and none has really swayed the public.

In the end some people will be satisfied with the final report and others will not. OSU shouldn't concern itself with the satisfaction of the masses. It should concern itself with the truth - or as much truth as can be pulled out of this "he said - she said" mess. I mean, are they going to try to figure out who is lying and who is telling the truth between the Zach and Courtney camps? I really hope not.

I really doubt that there is much truth out there other than the plain facts - what did Urban know, when did he know it, and what did he do when he found out about it. They interviewed everyone, but it really comes back to these questions.

Can you blame him?
Not one bit. They have loaned Courtney a significant amount of money over the years. They probably could help with the investigation because they are clearly close enough to be willing to do that. But this is the kind of thing that could destroy his career.

There is no such thing as karma, and every school feels like you do. Read 11W. There is a huge contingent of OSU fans who feel like ESPN has some sort of unspoken agenda which targets Ohio State. Not sure why everyone feels like a victim, but too many people think this way.

i don't feel like a victim, and i'm not going to get in a peeing match with you, but it's not just some paranoid delusion that southern schools (along with the entire south) have been a punching bag for conceited northern and midwestern schools that like to deride the south as a backwards bunch of inbreds.

sorry, but that's just the historical reality of it.
