I was reading a writeup on SC's rivals site and the writer made an interesting statement about Bama's stinging hit on Moe Brown from Woodall and Green.

After mentioning that it was a clean hit, he said that after writing all week about how physical the Bama D is, but that hit made him realize they take hard-hitting to another level.

Nice praise from the opposition.

at 1st glance the hit looks like an illegal helmet-to-helmet hit, but upon watching it again and reading the revised NCAA rules on this, it is a clean hit.

NCAA has removed spearing as a penalty, but instead concentrates on intentional helmet-to-helmet hits and hits of a defenseless player. The hit on Brown did not fall into either category and was correctly not called a penalty by the ref.

Gotta give refs props when they get one right, especially one like that which was tough to call (or not call) in fast motion.

He was diagnosed with a concussion and was able to fly back home with the team. However, they are reporting that he will not be available for the game against Vandy this week.

Which hurts as Brown is our top WR and a team captain.

So far it does appear it was just a concussion.

You can see a replay of the hit on ESPN

Has anyone else seen the reverse angle pics of Barron's interception return? He actually drops the ball just before crossing the goal line. Luckily for Bama it was missed by officials.

When a player is closing that fast, the helmet is going to be ahead of the body - anything otherwise is physically impossible. If the DB is coming high, relatively speaking, which he will be if the WR is also low, there's no way on earth that the helmets won't make first contact.

basketball is a contact sport, football is a collision sport-that's why we wear the pads. Taking a cheap shot on a defenseless player in one thing, laying the wood is another. Glad Moe is alright, but keep ringin' those bells Robbie Green!!!!!

The talk of the hit Green laid down being illegal is crazy to me. First let me say I am glad Brown is OK and it was just a concussion, after the hit and seeing him lay motionless for so long I was starting to think it was a spinal injury. Back to the point...Green led with his shoulder not his head and it was his shoulder pad that hit the back of Brown's helmet. He was just doing his job and Brown took a shot from a hard-hitting SEC safety. If you watch the replay he could have just as easily led with his helmet to the base(and back) of Brown's helmet maybe causing a career ending injury but he didn't he hit him with his pads. Good luck to Brown in his recovery and opposing WR's take notice of what happens when you try to gain that extra foot when you play us. We have a head-hunting secondary for the 1st time in a while and I am glad to see this kind of passion and fire in the Alabama football team, as I am to see it in SC players they played a heckova game and Moe Brown is a tough WR to take one like that and still give the thumbs up. Big 12 beware there is a reason we don't have Micheal Crabtree's, Dez Bryant's, ans Shipley's in the SEC....they wouldn't survive the defenses week in and week out.

First, I am glad too that Moe appears to be on the road to recovery, god knowS we need his leadership for the next half.I have watched the replay several times from several angles and in slow mo.There was nothing but a helmet on helmet initial contact.Pads were not in play. Was it intentional? Absolutely not, not in my wildest dreams do I think that was Green's intention. This is college football played at its highest level and hits like this will be made in an instant because that is how fast the game is played. To indicate that Green had a choice as to where he would make his "head hunting"contact is misleading though imo.Would it change the outcome? Probably not.Great game TIDE fans and team, and please do not stop when u pile it on UcheaT!

After you made me look again...I have noticed my blunder. I was meaning to say Woodall...Green was the 1st hit. My whole post was centered around the 2nd hit by Woodall, my apologies.

That is how I see it.

Also true if the D player is coming in low for a tackle at the runners thighs to wrap him up. If the ball carrier also ducks his head low to plow through the D player, there is no way to avoid helmet to helmet contact.

I think it is the angle of contact that the NCAA is concerned about. ie: the crown of the helmet to the crown of the helmet.

Players are going to crash facemasks from time to time. The problem is leading with the top of the helmet, or intentional helmet contact.
