There were 19 teams & there are 21 legitimate answers . How many can you name ?

Cliff Stoudt, Birmingham Stallions and Bobby Hebert, Oakland Invaders.... I saw them play at Legion Field back in 1984, I think it was. Oh, and Walter Lewis, Memphis Showboats.

Ah, the USFL, great topic, I loved it. Let me think of a few...
  • Doug Flutie: You all know of him...
  • Walter Lewis: Longtime 'Bama QB
  • Chuck Fusina: Yes, that Chuck Fusina, of 1979 Sugar Bowl fame
  • Alan Risher: QB at LSU in 1982 during Stovall's only good year
  • Bobby Hebert: Cajun Cannon, later of the Saints and Falcons
  • Steve Young: Yes, that Steve Young
  • Jim Kelly: Later of the Buffalo Bills
  • Cliff Stoudt: I remember him because he was the QB of the B'ham Stallions
  • Rick Neuheisal: Later Colorado, Washington, and UCLA head coach.
That is all I can remember off of the top of my head. I loved the old USFL though, it was the best professional football league ever aside from the NFL, and it is amazing how many big-time stars they had. I hate when I hear people compare stuff like the XFL and the AAFL to the USFL. The USFL was a great football league, not a knock-off league featuring a bunch of guys who weren't able to cut it in the NFL.

Ring a bell, anyone?

Oh, and one more...

Doug Williams: Later the first black QB to ever win a Super Bowl, and head coach at Grambling.

He was QB with the Outlaws and the Wranglers.

Stoudt - B'ham
Hebert - Mich 83-84 , Oak 85 . I was also at that game - 20-17 B'ham 4/13/85 .
Lewis - Memphis
Flutie - New Jersey *85 . He replaced a big name QB who is another of the 21 .

17 to go ....

BigEasy , you caught me while I was posting .

Let's see ....

Fusina - Balt/Philly 84-85 .
Risher - Az 83 . He was replaced by a pretty well known QB who is 1 of the 21 .
Young - LA 84-85 .
Kelly - Hou 84-85 .
Neuheisel - San Antonio 84-85 .
Williams - OK 84-85 .

11 more remaining .

Walter Lewis actually shared the starter's spot at Memphis with Mike Kelley. Greg Landry was the starter in Chicago. I remember John Reaves hobbling around in Tampa Bay and Brian Sipe with the Generals.

Didn't Bob Gagliano play in the USFL as well? Denver, maybe?

You hit on one of the trick portions of the question . Landry was the Chicago starter in '83 and the Arizona starter in '84 . So , who replced him in Chicago ?

Correct on Gagliano . Also correct on Sipe whom Flutie replaced in '85 .

8 more ...

(1)Gagliano played for the San Antinio Gunslingers!
(2)Steve Young LA Express

Nope .

Already named .

also, Reggie Collier (sp?)(from Southern Miss) and Bobby Lane was the Qb's for Bham before Cliff Stoudt.

Man I loved the USFL!
Same here . I still have several of the free items that were given to media members . I was a teen imposter at that time who had no business being up there .
I'll add one other question - Who was our PBP guy ?

The reason I feel the question is pretty tricky is that there were different teams during each of the 3 seasons and a few of the clubs were merged . 12 in '83 , 18 in '84 and 14 in '85 for a total of 19 franchises .

Collier was the Orlando starter in '85 - their only season . So , he is 1 of the 21 we're after . Pretty good season too - 2,600 in the air & 600+ on the ground .

7 QB's remaining .....

My bad . I didn't catch Reaves the 1st time I "read" your post .

6 left ....

4 are really tough but , 2 others are very easy . :conf3:

There was a Jerry Goldstyn that played for Lee Corso at Orlando...seems like he started in Reggie Collier's place, not sure if it was due to an injury or if Collier was benched. Johnnie Walton played for the Breakers...he also played in the WFL and NFL. Seems like there was a Bansana (Fred?) I think with Oakland. I'm reaching here. Didn't "Jefferson Street" Joe Gilliam of Steelere fame play with the Federals along with a Mike Hohensee (sp?).
Again...reaching here.

Walton was one who I felt would've been mentioned fairly early . '83 Boston , '84 New Orleans & '85 Portland . All were the same team - Breakers .

Very nice pull with Besana & Hohensee .

3 left .....

1 of them is very easy .

I stand (somewhat) corrected. LOL

In looking at the stats from '85, and it's amazing the year Herschel had.

Brian was their guy but , he was injured . As soon as he returned he got lit up again and was done . :( I was a Sipe fan from back when he was a Brown .

I know H.Walker had over 2,400 one season and around 5,600 over his 3 year run . Too bad Trump created the bidding war & ruined the league . Used to watch a game at lunch and hit the golf course in the afternoon every week .
