Utah NIL: new Ram 1500 for all fb players

they’re leased to the players while on scholarship with 6 month renewals. Nice little angle. Blast from the past. This was how you signed star players in the 80s from I’ve read haha

Understanding that football is the major revenue generating support and therefore it only makes sense that the Utes NIL spend the lion’s share of their funds on the money generating sports, I just have to wonder when “gender inequality” start to raise its head with things like softball, women’s basketball, etc..

I understand the NIL cooperative is independent of the university and NCAA Title IX, but I just have to wonder when the “it’s not fair” card gets played.

Not holding my breath, but Congress needs to enact some regulations on this nonsense
They will when it comes to generating tax revenue. I do wonder how the amount of the lease, or whatever NIL deal a player gets is taxed or if it’s taxed at all (for now)? If the federal government can find an angle to tax it they will and then some type of reform will come.

Title IX has been thrown out of the window in this country.

The NCAA's lack of action wrt NIL and the xfer portal will kill CFB as we know it (if it hasn't already).

Every time I see one of these stories I lose a bit more interest in CFB.
I think I get along well with you and I respect you so I'm not intending this as an insult but were you not supportive of NIL and was I not saying this was opening Pandora's box?

This is what I thought we all knew would happen. It's terrible, but I am confused to see people who seemingly supported it not liking where it is taking us. I'm not trying to single you out because my opinion seemed fairly isolated at the time. But, what did we think it would be if not this?

This is college football now. I didn't want it, but it's odd that I seem to have more enthusiasm for it than the people who wanted it in the first place. These are the rules now, you just have to take advantage of them. It can't be fixed because it was done in the worst possible way, which I always thought was intentional so there could be no real oversight.

I'd say I'm probably like Saban in this - I want the players to earn legitimate money via NIL, which means there has to be some form of oversight to avoid the mess we're in. These stories are not legitimate use of NIL. Any team using NIL to make sure every player gets 'x' is abusing the system and undermining my interest in the sport.

I can want what's "right" for the players without wanting the lack of oversight to allow it to spin out of control, which this feels like.

But once again, we've allowed something positive to become a negative because the NCAA has completely dropped the ball wrt setting standards.

I get maximizing the rules - I've zero problem with it. What I hate it is the lack of rules and enforcement. Rules only matter if they're in place and enforced.

So no, this is not what I was cheering for, even if it seemed inevitable. Perhaps I'm (generally) too optimistic, but I had assumed the schools would force the NCAA to act. I was wrong.

I tend to agree. Yes I still watch college football but the same level of interest isn’t there anymore for me as it was. I’m in my late 40s and so I’ve been around Bama football since the later days of Coach Bryant. Even through the extremely difficult years post Coach Stallings (until Coach Saban arrived) there was so much anticipation for me for cfb. And I certainly realize change is the nature of everything but I do have to admit the blurring of lines between professionalism and amateurism at the collegiate football level is, atleast for me, taking some of the interest away. This isn’t to say I won’t watch cfb but the interest level has diminished for me a bit

I'm probably painting with a broad brush here and allowing what I see in the world around me to color my take here but it seems the problem with NIL (and to some extent with the portal) is we basically went from "rules" to "no rules."

Even if your personality is such you hate rules, rules are necessary for a functional world.

So if you go from "you can't pay them anything" as a rule to "you can pay them anything" it's just too much change too fast and chaos will "rule." There will always be some rule and now chaos rules.
