UT's Ainge overconfident?

Seems that Mr. Ainge think's they have earned the right to "know they will win" against us saturday. I'm not for bulletine board material, but this guy must have not gained anything in terms of humility from last year. Sounds as cocky as Casey Clausen did a few years back.

I'd be more surprised to read a QB saying "well, we don't think we can win this year." What do you expect him to say? More importantly, if you don't feel like they should be thinking they can win, does that hold true for our guys as well? Shouldn't they also feel like they can win?

I am so glad he is as confident as he is now. He proclaims that our defense cannot stop their offense what so ever. Maybe those predictions will blow up in Mr. Ainge's face and our D will own the all mighty Vol's once again. RTR. :biggrin:

Told that the Vols hadn't scored a touchdown against the Crimson Tide (5-2, 2-2) in the last six quarters dating to the 2004 game, Ainge's response summed up Tennessee's confidence right now.

"Well, we'll change that," he said.

I expect a QB to be confident, it comes with being one. He just seems to think things are completely different now, and that Alabama is going to roll over and let them do as they wish. I liken this to Le'Ron McClain's comments before the Arkansas game. They just don't need to be made, and they only add fuel to the fire (not that I mind Ainge being cocky, it will be sweeter in the end).

I didn't take what he said as being cocky. I think he took aim at what a dismal O we had last year and stated a fact. The UT O is much better than last year. Even the most ardent of UT haters would have to agree to that.

Now Casey was Cocky! Ainge really isn't that much. He has grown to be a very confident QB, but hey, success does that to all QB's.
 
I hope we stuff that confidence right down his throat and he chokes on it. The good thing is, if we play them tuff early, that confidence will shake and we can pull it out in the end.
 
Ainge is talking like any QB would talk after scoring 40+ points in the second half to come back and beat a traditional SEC power on the road. I don't blame him at all for being confident. That whole team should be confident. Lets just hope they come out overconfident and make some mistakes. Thats what we are going to need to win Saturday; a perfect game from Bama and some mistakes from UT.

His confidence is key to his success. Without that kind of confidence, he's the same Erik Ainge he was last season.

He very well may be picked on Saturday. In fact, I would count on it. He's been picked 5 times so far this season, so it won't come as a big surprise. However, one interception isn't going to make a huge difference in the outcome of the game.

:biggrin: We shall see. You do know that we are deadly in the defensive backfield? We have 3 that can pick it and take it to the house. It could be a long afternoon for EA, or a real easy one...depending on which Tide team shows up.:wink:

Bama's defense is always very tough. That's something UT can count on every year. Since UT had a bye week, this gives Cutcliffe and Ainge more than enough time to figure out what is going to work against your D. When they last had this much time to prepare, well... you all saw what they did to Cal's hyped up defense. Even though, I admit, they are HIGHLY overrated... just like the rest of the Pac-10.
 
Have to disagree. I think Cal is a very good team which just played a very poor game in Knoxville and made the Viles look good.

In the Chattanooga papers it sounds like the Viles just have to run through the T and they will win. Time will tell.

UT almost always has a bye week before Bama -that's not new. So, let's see, the last time UT had this much time to prepare for Bama... Oh yeah, 6-3 Bama. :)

Randy Sanders, Erik Ainge, AND Rick Clausen were preparing for that game. We all know how that combination proved to be. You missed my point entirely.
