Vanderbilt wrap-up: When in doubt, win it in the trenches

  • Hi Guest, we are working on updating the site servers and software. We're also 'forcing' everyone to read and agree to our site privacy policy and terms of service. There are no significant changes to either of these but the terms page does clarify a few things that are mostly in the legalese. You can just click the checkbox for both and continue using the site as usual! We'll update you more on the site upgrades VERY soon! THANK YOU AS ALWAYS for supporting the site and being an active participant!

Having to kick three field goals in the second half was not good. They were still in that game until the third one. The two turn overs by Pavia in the red zone created by the defense really helped the win. The offense having long drives were a sight for sore eyes after last year.

We definitely need to get better at finishing drives but just the fact that we can sustain drives now has been so beneficial.

We aren’t going 3 and out near as often and aren’t completely boom or bust.

We are converting 3rd downs way more often.

So if nothing else we are giving the Defense a chance to have breathers and make some adjustments.

It can be such a vicious cycle for the D to be on the field for another teams sustained drive and then the Offense comes out and goes 3 and out or turns the ball over (‘23-‘24 HWSNBN).

I see that Vandy game as a turning point for the Tide. I think the coaches, players, even the trainers and crew members each did great.

Let's not relax; Mizzou is a good team.
I'm not too concerned about Missouri at this point. If you look at their schedule, it's been one of the easiest in the SEC so far. They haven’t even played a road game yet, while this will already be Bama’s third road test of the season, so Bama is definitely more battle tested. That said, we can’t afford to come out flat like we did against FSU.
