Politics: VP Pick em Thread

I suspect she picks Kaine if polls show he'll carry Virginia. Heck, she might pick Bill as her VP and gamble on getting elected and THEN pick some left-wing extremist as his replacement. Incidentally, there have been some rumblings that Bill COULD, in fact, be ELECTED VP (I don't see it but wouldn't THAT make an interesting SCOTUS case with a 4-4 bench?).

I think Trump picks Rubio or Kasich, more likely the latter, if he needs to carry a state.

Well, if it's good enough for House of Cards...

The 12th amendment states that the VP must meet the same requirements as the President; technically, Bill would be a valid choice. The 22nd Amendment states that he couldn't be ELECTED president for an additional term or part of a term; a strict constructionalist would have to conclude that should Bill be elected VP, he would be able to succeed Hillary.

You might argue that because Bill cannot be elected again per the 22nd, he is ineligible, I suppose.

In any event, while it would be fun to see it happen just to watch Fox News implode, I don't see how having Bill on the ticket would be much of a help to Hillary.

As far a Trump's VP pick...I think it will be a surprise to everyone.

I was listening to Newt today and while I'm not necessarily keen on him as VP, I think he could do a lot of good on Trump's staff somewhere. he knows congress pretty good.

Here we go....got the perfect guy for the job....

Oh yes. The split-second it took me to realize who that was made the post. Hilarious. Bible Spice and Nero. #offseasonliveshere

Hillary did say she was going to take Bill out of retirement and "put him hard at work". Knowing Bill though, what she means by that and how he interprets it could very well be two very different things!

An issue for Bill being her VP would be that an elector cannot vote for two people who live in the same state that the elector does. For example, if I were an elector in the electoral college, I could not vote for both Roy Moore as president and then Robert Bentley for VP.

This did come up in 2000. Cheney lived in Texas at the time, so he had to establish residency back in Wyoming so Texas electors could vote for both. Of course, Bill could establish residency in Arkansas, I was just pointing that out. But I seriously doubt she tabs him as her running mate anyway. I think he'll be another buy one, get one free deal like we had before.

I wouldn't have either one if you gave him/her to me. Why would I buy the other?

I'm aware of this little complication, but in light of the shenanigans I've seen Democrats pull before - most notably violating the Constitution to elect Mel Carnahan in 2000 as well as their ditching Bob Torricelli when his goose was cooked in the 2002 NJ Senate race - don't think this one is a huge problem.

Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if they had not already thought of this one and got a post office box or something in Little Rock. Maybe even use the address of the Clinton Library.

I don't think it's going to be Bill, but given HER unpopularity as well - it wouldn't completely surprise me, either. Indeed - HER unpopularity it the only reason this race isn't technically over right now. The unfavorables (last I saw) are 55 for Hillary and 65 for Trump - if you figure a four-point margin of error, that MIGHT mean he's 20 points MORE unfavorable than her or it might mean they're in a dead heat at 59-61. The late Lee Atwater stated in 1988 that NO candidate can survive negatives above the 40s. Well, we're going to test that thesis this year for sure - although I do predict that the negatives of ONE of the two will, in fact, come down to a manageable range since they pretty much always do. I suspect it will be Hillary, since they have a ton of experience at spinning public opinion, and she's far more likely to be willing to be scripted than Trump is. (I also suspect she actually wants to be President and Trump doesn't really care but is on an ego trip).

And that is another part of the constitution that has seen better times. Does anybody really feel threatened anymore about this happening. I think not. The entire presidential election process from top to bottom is screwed up and should have been replaced years ago.

HRC will never be the nominee. She's out by the convention due to "health issues".

Get ready for Chief Warren to put on the war paint and lead the Dems on the war path.
