Recently Ms. Saban said in an interview that Bama fans were essentially spoiled and did not appreciate the success that the program has enjoyed since CNS had arrived in Tuscaloosa.

Well, will the fan base prove that she was right? Or wrong.

I for one am very pleased with what has been accomplished and will continue to support the team.

No true Bama fan ever wants to lose to AU by even 1 pt., neither did I.
Thanks to CNS for breathing life, and pride back into a sufferring, and once proud program and fan base.

I think the reverse may also be true. Any chance the Saban's have unrealistic expectations of a fan base? Every coach is going to hear and experience some criticism regardless of where they are. Most fans I know are very reasonable and realistic. Sure there are nutballs but like I said, those are found in all colors and in all corners. Frankly I found the comment silly.

Ms. Saban was right for many of us Bama fans. The poster above is also right about the Sabans not being realistic when it comes to the expectations for a coach with his salary, facilities and tremendous fan base following.

Let's hope that Bama does not go into the dumps and drop a bowl game and really mess up the ending even worse for the super seniors we have on this team. Let's go out with some pride.

Roll Tide Roll! (Please)

Though I agree with the sentiment expressed in your final three sentences, no - she didn't say that. She said [emphasis mine] "people get spoiled by success and there gets to be a lack of appreciation." Then, in my opinion referring to her husband and herself, she said "We're kind of there now."

But I don't want to drag that whole topic out again.

Have Alabama fans, in general, become spoiled? I'd say so. But what fan base isn't going to be spoiled (high school, college, professional) when your team wins three of the last four championships? Remember when the New York Yankees seemed to be unstoppable in the late 1990s and early 2000s? The whole country was sick of the Yankee fans attitudes.

I would also suggest that there's no way Coach Saban (and his wife) could've expected to have received the following that they did receive beginning with the 2007 spring game. The Alabama fan base was beaten down, ready to grasp onto anything that suggested the team was going to be a lot better in the near future. With Coach Saban at the helm, Alabama finally a great coach leading the team. We have to treat these losses (even to Auburn) as just another step in our path to win championships. We've beaten Auburn four of the last six years. In the previous six years, we couldn't win anything at all!

I think there was as much lack of appreciation among the players as there were amongst us fans. I haven't had a good feeling all year about this team because of suspensions and other distractions. The hunger doesn't seem to have been there. In reality I think the pressure to perform starting reaching an unhealthy level last year during the LSU game just given the emotional toll it to pull that game out. Fortunately for us we finished the deal last year. Not sure what the future holds now but maybe we can start geeting some joy from playing again.

someone else posted that all the success made this season almost a grind even for fans. i agree with the sentiment that, at least for me, the games almost weren't enjoyable a lot of the time because of all the pressure. i had a terrible feeling about the game yesterday because i kind of felt like the levee had to break sooner or later. i really hate that it had to happen against auburn, but i'm not surprised at all that the loss came to them. it's a tough one to swallow, but it is what it is.

I think, from the comments in a few threads over the last month or so, that many Alabama fans had begun to show signs of relief after wins instead of joy. That relief, IMO, comes from tension associated with expectations. In short, many fans felt pressure for their team to win games every week. That certainly takes away from the joy until the last game is played, and even then there is a sigh of relief.

Think about it - how much pure joy did you experience when Alabama was put back in the races the last two seasons? Pure joy - you had nothing to lose.

To combine two cliches - it is good to be king, but heavy weighs the crown.

I completely agree with this. This season was just not fun even with an unprecedented third title in a row on the line and a chance at football history. I was telling a friend a few weeks ago that I would be glad when this season was over. I hate losing -- especially to the barn -- but they deserved to win that game last night, much as it pains me to say that. However, that said, it's not the end of the world. All of us -- players, coaches, fans--need to eat our humble pie, and maybe find some of the joy again. And we will be back in contention, there's no question about that. Roll Tide!!!

I concur. I was more worried about losing than the joy of winning.

I feel like those are the bandwagon fans, the fair weathered guys. I would like to see those people on twitter who were saying those things strap on a helmet and try and kick a field goal from 44 yards out. Or 35. Or 53 or whatever the last one was

edit: i hate when my posts fall to the bottom of the page.

The resources the University has given Coach Saban is way beyond what Most NFL teams have. His compensation is one of the top of all coaches in any sport. CNS is free to say whatever he wants as is Ms Terry so the freedom is way beyond what other coaches experience.

the expectations are high & I think CNS understands that, what I do not think he understands is the importance of the IB to the fans. Even the players don't fully get it IMO, with eye exception of AJ.
so many of these kids come from other states that really don't have anything close to the IB. In years past you just had to win this game to get the good in-state recruits now, CNS has made recruiting national. So API becomes another game on the schedule.
So no she is not right, she has the right to say it but the facts bear out that Alabama has been very good to the Sabans in return to how good he (they) have been to the university.

Before last night, I thought she was a bit off but after seeing the meltdown of some of our "fans", I think she was onto something. We should be more appreciative but we have been spoiled. It was only inevitable. If you try to look at it from their perspective though, they have been here longer than at any other job. So, we should be a little more understanding as they go through this phase that is a little unfamiliar to them. I am glad they have decided to finish up here. The UofA is class all the way and the Saban's are as well. While they need to understand things happen, we also need to be a bit more appreciative.

ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!

I tend to think she was most likely talking about EVERYONE - her, her husband, the fans, and the players. And she was right. I think all of us are learning how to live with success.

I think that she was right to some degree on the statement. Also, I think, like others have said, that the team was under a lot of pressure and I think that is what hurt them yesterday. To me they cost themselves the game by mental mistakes and it was not anything Auburn did. I think they were playing to tight.

No, Ms Terry was not correct regarding the "lack of appreciation" she cited in the article. Maybe she sees that in the students she is around but certainly not the Tide Nation. Also, those fans saying this season is not as fun for them because they were "relieved" of a win rather than sincerely thrilled for the victory I find quite sad frankly. We continue to be the gold standard in the college football world win or lose. Sure, we missed the opportunity to make history with a 3 peat but so what...we'll be back next year. We lost a close game to an arch rival and that is bound to happen from time to time. But while they rebuild next year we will be back in the hunt again just like we will in 2015, 2016, 2017 and every year after that while Nick Saban is pacing the sidelines. We are only at the beginning of this dynasty so we need to take a collective breath, get ready to dominate our bowl opponent and gear up for signing day.
