We Sit Alone At the Top...

I think right now we're top dog (top elephant?) and we are moving in the right direction. We don't want to peak too soon. At the same time, I have one concern I've not really seen explored here: we are 0-3 in games decided by 7 or less since we beat Arky three years ago. We have not won a "last minute" game since the drive that beat Auburn in 2009. Our team has been so dominant that that's one area they have no real experience. But it WILL happen. It happened last year & nearly ruined us. Nobody thought Tennessee was as good as us in 09 and they weren't.

But we will have to show we can win one like that.

I somewhat agree; but we did have a heckuva drive at the end of the first half. Took the ball at the 5 (if memory serves), with very little time and went the length of the field to score. Yes, I know, it's not a top tier school, but still the offense did what was needed.

As for Kenny Bell, much, much better than D.J. Hall, I haven't seen him do the aligator arm thing across the middle that was (imo) the hallmark of DJ.

By the way we have so many _J's; where do we get them all. DJ, TJ, AJ, CJ...

I might feel better about how good we are if Michigan didn't look so bad vs ND and Arkansas ......

We haven't had to play 4 quarters yet -- so it's just hard to tell....

BUT -- I agree -- it sure doesn't look like anyone will be challenging us for #1 anytime soon

I would agree, except we demolished those teams. And had backups in the game at the end of Michigan and the second half of Arkansas. We could of scored more, but didn't. I think if they were close games, I could see being concerned.

But I agree that we haven't had to see us really get tested, to see how the leadership of the team responds. I always think back to how special our 2009 team was, to have the drive at the end of the auburn game. And our 2011 team to come back and destroy lsu.

While I feel BAMA is very good I'm just not ready to start saying we're in a league of our own. I hope we are and feel like we can be, but until we beat someone I'm not ready to crown us kings.

Oregon doesn't have the strength to hang with the SEC. Their vaunted speed looked very average against the Barn back in 2010. As Saban would likely caution us, don't make this team out to be any better than they have proven themselves to be. We have dominated two preseason top ten teams. Michigan has proven themselves to be a lower-tier Top 25 team, while Arkansas is among the SEC's worst teams this season. Our first real test will be LSU on the first Saturday in November.

Really. I like where we are at, but I would like it even better if the teams we beat didn't totally crumble the rest of the season. Denard has turned into a non-Heisman who is trying and failing to carry his team, and Arkansas is in full thermonuclear meltdown. This helps us not at all.

Georgia at times looks to be a monster. Jarvis Jones may be the best player in college football. The dawgs have had tough first halves against inferior opponents . I think Florida state was exposed as their usual pretender selves, although they won. West Virginny had a tough time with a terrible Maryland team. Michigan easily outgained Notre Dame, but 6 turnovers will kill any team. I think Meatchickens defense played well only giving up 13 points. I kept thinking any minute they will tie the game and every time they disappointed. You know , November is Duck season, Carolina looked good, but they could of lost to Vandy. Ou lost to a game KSU team, although OU looked the better team most times I watched. LSU looked more like LSwho saturday.

And then there is Alabama. easily the most consistent, most dominant team in CFB. Gameday stopped picking their game, instead they pick whether the opponent will score. plus Bama is playing a lot of players which bodes well for later this year and next.

Yeah, I've never seen them do that. It was funny. Thanks to a stupid penalty we lost...

The shut out.

Is it too much to hope for that Bama and nd play for the NC??????:biggrin2:

It could happen. But Oregon and FSU are the most likely candidates to meet the SEC champ in Miami as of right now, with FSU being the odds-on favorite given their breezy schedule from here on out. The 'Noles play nobody until they travel to Virginia Tech in early November, then they get the Gators at home on Thanksgiving weekend.

sos may hurt them on the flip side.

We may not fare much better on SOS if things don't change. Best I van see we won't face a real challenge for another month either. Mizzu is finding out old man football is tough, Ole Siss can't stop anyone and TN has lost their only real game to this point. Ark is a negative on SOS, Michigan just got beat by notre dumb and that leaves two out matched teams in FAU and WK as our strong marks on our schedule. WK is the best opponent we've faced to date.

Since USCw has lost to Stanford and has pretty much blown their chance at playing for the NC I could think of no one else i'd rather play if we make it than the domers! My how i'd love for Bama to beat their arse!

I don't disagree with that. What we do have going for us though is the vote. As long as we keep winning, we should be ok.
