Link: Welcome to the SEC Mike Leach

Frankly he got outta town from Pullman right on time. Their big rival is basically flaunting how he won't adapt to their schemes against him. The Seattle-centric media doesn't like him and it has become a plaintext adversarial relationship now. With Chris Petersen gone the expectation is that they'll step up a bit. Hell, this was Petersen's worse UDub team arguably and they still easily beat Wazzu.

In my opinion, his prospects of getting chased outta town were growing faster than many realize. A place like WSU will be more than happy with a fun 7-6 to 8-5 season being the norm but you can't be souring the state media against you and never even being competitive against your biggest rival while doing it. He was probably going to be fired for saying something too provocative or simply for performance with 3 years.

With all that said, I'd reiterate that I do think this was about the best hire Starkville could make. He'll likely scrounge together a bowl eligible season every year he's there. They'll be fun to watch for the fans. Mullen kinda established a miserable brand of ball but it was effective for them considering that they have one of the longer bowl appearance streaks in the conference now. They're basically going to get nearly the same results but with a more fun product.

A lot of his success will depend on who his DC will be. Regardless, I like having him in the SEC.

The style offense he runs undermines the goal of most defensive schemes. It doesn't matter who he gets as DC, they will give up a ton of points from the simple fact of the style offense he runs. Their defense will be "dawg" tired most of the time.

Dig that. Heck, I believe we have suffered that fate the past couple of years with the Tua offense scoring at will. Seems to me it is about time for D coordinators to brainstorm and innovate some totally new concept to try and slow down these offenses. Easier said than done but there is an answer. Exotic blitzes on every play...anything to affect the Quarterback.

I know we've made fun of Gene Chizik but the guy was a prophet at the beginning of this season. He was specifically talking about Alabama and LSU's offense and comparing it to his time at Auburn when Gus was his OC. He basically said, if you're going to run that type high powered offense you're just going to have to accept a let down on defense. He said at that point you just try to manage the degree of the let down. But there WILL BE a let down on the defensive side of the ball.

I read where Mike Leach is getting 5 million each year for 4 years, which is 1 million more per year than what his contract at Washington State was. He does owe Washington State 2.25 million buyout. It did not say how much he is allowed for assistants, but said it was going to be a large amount.

Leach will make MSU an air raid no defense team and will light up defenses with 2 star qbs that no one in the P5 thought should start for 3-4 years, but will give up tons of points

Kiffin will build a solid offense with a decent by ole miss standards defense. If he gets a great TE then he will be tough to stop. I think Kiffin has better staying power if he beats MSU and stays out of trouble.

Ultimately I see Kiffin as a 7-9 win coach at MSU and Leach as a 4-7 win coach (lower number worst case and higher number as best case). But ultimately their tenures will be decided by the Egg Bowl and Bowl games. If Arkansas becomes relevant then all bets are off.

No way he stays out of trouble. He will be gone in less than three years, leaving a bunch of burned bridges and a smoking wreck of a program in his wake. And the NCAA will be poking around in the ruins.

And make the fans happy. They got a 'name' and the fans are happy.

Just heard a bit of his presser. Sounds like he nailed it. The joke he references goes along the lines (and there are many variations):

Two guys are stretching, warming up for a track meet and see a bulldog licking his privates by the fence. One says, "I wish I could do that." The other says, "that dog would bite you."

That's a version of an old Lewis Grizzard joke about Bubba & Earl at at UGA homecoming game.

Not a fan of Leach. I think he tries to hard to be "funny". Now, I'll hear it way more than I care to. Les Miles was funny without trying and without the silliness.

I don't think Leach will be very successful at MissSt, so maybe he won't be around for too long.

If he is not very successful, then he needs to stay there for a very long time. :)
